Activities at Wykeham House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Activities Lead

I joined Wykeham House in October 2022 but I have worked doing activities in care homes since I left College, I began volunteering in a local home when I was 15 years old and then took on my first job in a care home when I was 18. I have enjoyed extending my knowledge to improve my work and have a Level 2 in Dementia Awareness, Domestic Abuse Awareness and Mental Health Awareness. I have also attended courses on End-Of-Life Activities as well as Dementia focused Activities. I love what I do and for me it is important that every day is a new day for our residents with new opportunities and a smiling face to come with it.

Life at Wykeham House Care Home

,

International Scrabble Day

Residents enjoy nothing more than a game of scrabble together. When they found out there was an international day for this it seemed to raise the stacks. Everyone got quite competitive and had a great afternoon playing against each other.

Easter Baking

Residents had a great afternoon, making Easter cakes. They got involved in the preparing, baking, decorating and then of course the eating. Everyone said that not only did they look fantastic they tasted just as good too.

Pet Therapy for Memory Lane

We have a new addition on Memory Lane at Wykeham House. Meet Fluffy the Cat! Fluffy is a lifelike pet who provides endless hours of relaxation and therapeutic comfort. She creates a sense of security for residents who love looking after animals; She is delightfully soft to stroke and ‘breathes’ like a sleeping cat. The residents are keen to have Fluffy on their laps and benefit from the relaxing sensory experience. Fluffy is loved by residents and staff alike

Second Vaccines

Our Residents and Staff were delighted to be invited to have the second vaccination delivered by Birchwood Medical Practice in the comfort of their own home at Wykeham House. As with the first vaccination, it was a slick, professional process which has lifted everyone’s spirits. Over the next week the remainder of our staff will also receive their second vaccines. Excellent news

Garden Walks

As spring enters our lives here at Wykeham House and the temperature improves, our residents are enjoying our gardens again.  This year spring officially started this year on 20th March, and sure enough our daffodils are budding and the birds are singing.  Just right for an afternoon walk.

Using up those 10 point letters.

What better way to spend an afternoon than to play scrabble with a friend.  Did you know, you wont find every word in the English language but you will find 100,000 word's in the Merriam -Webster's Scrabble players dictionary. The game itself stretches our minds and improves your wellbeing - just right for our residents at Wykeham House.
