Activities at Wykeham House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Rachel Stevens

Activities Lead

I joined Wykeham House in October 2022 but I have worked doing activities in care homes since I left College, I began volunteering in a local home when I was 15 years old and then took on my first job in a care home when I was 18. I have enjoyed extending my knowledge to improve my work and have a Level 2 in Dementia Awareness, Domestic Abuse Awareness and Mental Health Awareness. I have also attended courses on End-Of-Life Activities as well as Dementia focused Activities. I love what I do and for me it is important that every day is a new day for our residents with new opportunities and a smiling face to come with it.

Bill surprises his Granddaughter on her Wedding Day

Here at Wykeham House we make the "impossible", possible. Bill and his family didn't think he would be able to attend his granddaughter Melissa's wedding. Shannon our activities assistant thought we could make this possible and she did. On 10th June 2023 when Melissa walked down the aisle she not only had her husband waiting at the other end but also her grandad. A truly special occasion.

A Day at The Races

Our residents had a wonderful time celebrating Epsom Derby's Ladies Day. We created and were donated hats fit for the occasion, residents enjoyed a pamper and like a true day at the races it would all be pretty incomplete without a wonderful photo opportunity.

Dementia Action Week

We had a great time during Dementia Action Week! We learned a lot from the Alzheimer's Society posters and flyers about how to support people living with dementia. Our residents showed us their amazing skills and talents as they joined in various activities, such as a coffee and cake afternoon, exercises and crafts, and an outing to Horley Recreation Ground. We are so proud of them and we hope they had fun too!

Traveling to Italy by Armchair

Residents enjoy armchair travel once a month here at Wykeham House. In April we celebrated Italy. We started the day with an Italian Quiz and then residents across the home made Pizza's. In the afternoon we did a virtual tour of Italy's historical landmarks and residents enjoyed their pizzas!
