Activities make up the most important part of all our days at Woodhorn park, so we ensure a variety of social events are available that reflect the interests of all the people we support. In our Memory Lane community, we have group conversations and regularly reminiscence about past experiences, which is something that people living with dementia really enjoy. Many residents love gardening, baking, outings, pet care and gentle exercise, which we provide, along with many other wholesome activities, as it is essential that life at Woodhorn Park is fun and active.

Home hold Dog Show
At Woodhorn Park we love our dogs and we recently held our very own virtual dog show for residents, family, and friends to shared their furry friends with us all too.
Dogs have fun loveable quirks, tricks and general gorgeousness. So, over the month we asked our community friends to share their loveable pet pictures and to enter their furry friends into a whole host of fun categories.
Forget-me-knots
Residents at Woodhorn Park have been busy planting forget me not seeds kindly donated from Age UK in china tea cups to decorate their individual rooms and watch them grow. The home enjoys their strong community links and look forward to welcoming their community friends back to the home. Thank you Age UK.
Olympic excitement at Woodhorn
Here at Woodhorn Park we are excited to watch and follow this year’s Olympics in Tokyo.
To show our support for all the nations that participate and the Team GB, we decorated our home with special flags, banners and torches.
We’ve organised a series of activities, games, quizzes and themed events for our residents to enjoy during the games.
Robots with V&A Dundee
We enjoyed a wonderful virtual introduction to the world of robots with V&A Dundee Curator, Kirsty Hassard.
Kirsty talked us through the history of robots and their early beginnings, the presentation traced the fascination of all things wired and wonderful and considered what the future might hold for our relationship with a multitude of mechanical machines.
It was absolutely thrilling to learn what robots can do now and what they might be able to do in the future.
Blenheim Palace gardens
We had a lovely time exploring the amazing gardens of Blenheim Palace through a virtual talk, hosted by the Historian - Antonia Keaney.
We enjoyed a virtual look at how the gardens at Blenheim have developed over the past 300 years - from the formality of Henry Wise through to the ‘natural’ landscape created by Capability Brown and beyond.
Everyone was very impressed by the many jewels hidden within the 150 acres of beautiful gardens.
Administrator scoops coveted award
Emma Saunders at Woodhorn Park Care Home in Ashington has been crowned Community Engagement Winner for North Division in the Barchester Care Awards 2021 and is through to the national round of judging.
The Barchester Care Awards celebrate the staff who go the extra mile for the benefit of the 12,000 residents living in Barchester’s 248 care homes and private hospitals across the country. Categories range from ‘Registered Nurse of the Year’ and ‘Carer of the Year’ to ‘Dementia Care Champion’ and ‘Activities Coordinator of the Year’.
More than 2,900 nominations were received from homes and hospitals across the UK. All entries were a very high standard and Emma Saunders is over the moon to have been named the winner for the North Division beating hundreds of other nominees.
