Activities at Woodhorn Park Care Home

Activities make up the most important part of all our days at Woodhorn park, so we ensure a variety of social events are available that reflect the interests of all the people we support. In our Memory Lane community, we have group conversations and regularly reminiscence about past experiences, which is something that people living with dementia really enjoy. Many residents love gardening, baking, outings, pet care and gentle exercise, which we provide, along with many other wholesome activities, as it is essential that life at Woodhorn Park is fun and active.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Woodhorn Park Care Home

Inside Dartmoor Zoo

We were able to virtually dive into the impressive wildlife of Dartmoor Zoo.

We explored its grounds and learnt about the unique history of the park from the zoo’s educational team. The culmination of the tour was the live tiger training demonstration, which was wonderful to see and enjoyed by all.

Our residents were delighted to see amazing photos and short videos of the animals and take a peek inside their home.

Residents peek into the lives of Puffins

We took a wonderful virtual trip to Iceland’s Puffin Rescue Centre at the Beluga Whale Sanctuary.

We were able to virtually meet some of the rescued Atlantic Puffins and to learn interesting facts about their care and unique lives. We took a peek into their lives in the wild, the Puffling rescue program in the Westman Islands, and how SEA LIFE Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary’s team takes care of these charismatic little birds each day.

It was a very exciting experience, enjoyed by all.

Residents enjoy a 'paws' in their week

Pet therapy helped residents at Woodhorn Park enjoy a ‘paws’ in their week when their new pet therapy pooch, Baxter paid a visit to the home.  Residents were keen to pet and cuddle with their new friend who was only too happy to accommodate and his tail wagged throughout the visit.  Pet therapy is a popular session at the home as part of their life enrichment programme and are looking forward to his return visit.

Getting ready for the football!

Residents of Woodhorn Park are gearing up to watch England’s match, the home was specially decorated for the occasion with flags and banners all around. Our residents enjoyed delicious snacks and refreshments as they were placing their bets on their favourite team. The excitement was building in anticipation!

Virtual talk with Blenheim Palace

Ahead of Armed Forces Day, we were transported back in time for a World War II themed talk and tour of Blenheim Palace, hosted by Antonia Keaney, the Palace’s social historian and author.

Entitled ‘Evacuees and Espionage,’ Antonia’s wartime themed talk focused on how the Marlborough family, estate staff and the Palace itself played a full and energetic part in the war effort.

The talk and tour told the story of how the Palace prepared for the worst, survived the onslaught of 400 boys being evacuated to Blenheim and kept the secrets of MI5.

It was a lovely experience, enjoyed by all.

Dunelm Cramlington donate gift

Residents and colleagues at Woodhorn Park were delighted to receive a gift from their local store, Dunelm Cramlington who have very generously donated a potting table and plants for the residents to enjoy and be able to show-case their green fingers as they potter in the garden and tend to their flowers. Thank you, Dunelm.
