Activities at West Oak Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at West Oak Care Home

Staff Receive Vaccination

We at West Oak are very proud to be having our first COVID-19 vaccination. We are pleased to be given the vaccine to keep our residents safe, and is the first step in getting things back to normal. We are looking forward to having visitors back in the home again.

Stout Tasting Afternoon

Residents jumped at the chance to try something different at our stout tasting afternoon. There were a variety of flavours available, even marshmallow and chocolate stout.

There were very mixed opinions on each flavour on offer. Most staff and Residents hadn’t realised the history behind stout.  We all learnt something new. We will certainly do make more taste testing afternoons in the New Year, as it was great fun.

Corridor Singalong

Activities staff at West Oak bring a smile and a song to all the residents and staff during their corridor singalong.

For a while, the corridor singalong had to be postponed, and it was a joy for everyone to have singing back in the home.

No one misses out during their journey around the home, and the girls are met with lots of smiles; and many even join in with a socially distanced song. Singing brings so much joy and happiness to the residents and the home.

Pumpkin Carving

We challenged our families and departments to create a pumpkin masterpiece for Halloween.

Residents watched the creations come together and judged the finished products along with the entries from our families.

It was a close competition with two runner-ups from the staff, and the ultimate winner was from one of our  families.

Raising Awareness

West Oak usually throws a big fundraising party for Breast Cancer Awareness (Wear it Pink Day), but this year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we all decided to promote breast cancer awareness in the home and around Wokingham.

Mary from St Paul's Church was very happy to promote this worthy cause by displaying some posters and literature in their visitors' room and church entrance.

St Paul's Church have been a great support to everyone at West Oak, with thoughtful donations for residents and staff, from magazines to hand cream, so we wanted to take this opportunity to say a big thank you from all of us at West Oak.

World Pasta Day

With the help of a generous donation from our local Zottarelli Deli, West Oak held a pasta tasting session in honour of World Pasta Day.

Residents and staff enjoyed trying the different shapes and colours of the variety of pasta, along with their tasty sauce.
