Activities at West Oak Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at West Oak Care Home

VE Day Celebrations

West Oak’s residents helped to set up for VE Day celebration, with ration books, flags, costumes and decorations. The day started with a zoom performance by West Oak’s favourite vintage singer, Kitty, who got everyone in the spirit for a day of celebrations, with her sing a long vintage songs.

Next came the good old fish and chips for lunch, served on newspaper printed grease proof paper, which was a real trip down memory lane, inspiring some interesting stories of days gone by. The residents and staff then joined in with the ‘Not Forgotten’ VE Day reminisces sessions on the big TV screens in the lounges, enjoying the different clips and songs of the good old days.

The residents and staff joined in with the Nations Toast at 3pm, in true British spirit

Thank You!

West Oak would like to thank everyone who has donated food, scrub bags, hand creams, cards and letters of encouragement. All the donations have helped to keep the staffs moral up as well as keeping healthy.

We at West Oak would like to recognise the support that we have been getting from St Pauls Church and Churches Together in Wokingham and Mothers Union who have all come together to create a wonderful support network, with their regular donations throughout these unusual circumstances. They have given the Staff and Residents a real boost with their commitment to our home.

A Big Thank You

Team members at West Oak Care Home received amazing thank you cards from Barchester as a token of appreciation for going above and beyond for their continuous hard work and dedication towards the residents.

Easter Goodies

West Oak received Easter goodies from our local garden centre to help the staff and residents celebrate Easter.

A box full of chocolate bunnies, eggs, strawberry and cookie crumble flavoured egg halves., accompanied by a hand-written Easter card.

The residents and staff were delighted to see such a generous donation. A big thank you to Henry Street Garden Centre in Arborfield, who have helped to make Easter a day to remember.

Pancake Day

A flipping good time was had by all at West Oak’s pancake flipping afternoon, no matter where our residents or staff were.

Everyone made a great effort to flip as many pancakes as they could in one minute, with Mark our Maintenance Manager flipping a disintegrating pancake a whopping 53 times!

Valentine's Week

Residents, families and staff celebrated Valentine's in style with West Oak’s Valentines week. Starting the week off with a cinema trip where residents and team members enjoyed a treat with the film of their choice.

Love was in the air at Gary’s Valentine's performance where fun was had by all, and everyone got a rose to mark the occasion from Gary or Dawn, Activities, even our volunteers were made to feel special.

Valentines week finished with a romantic meal for couples. With a meal prepared especially for the occasion by our Chef. Everyone really appreciated being able to spend this special day with the loved ones.
