Activities at West Oak Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at West Oak Care Home

Blanket Donation

Earlier in the week, we received a very generous donation of knitted blankets from local charity, Wokingham In Need. This huge selection is greatly appreciated by all the staff and our residents.

Residents have enjoyed looking through the blankets and we spoke about the different colours and patterns. They have all now selected which blanket they would like for their rooms.

Easter Donation

Easter has arrived at West Oak. We have received a generous donation from Morrison’s, Sainsbury’s & Waitrose with a selection of Easter eggs & sweets. The staff and residents are grateful for this kind gesture and have enjoyed choosing which Easter egg they would like.

Thank you to these supermarkets for the donation—we have a lot of happy bunnies!

The Magic Table

West Oak is thrilled to be able to add a bit of magic to our Home with our new Magic Table 360 and the Happiness Programme as a way to improve our residents' quality of life.

The table has many different choices of games and interactive stimulation exercises for every resident to enjoy.

This is a great way for our residents to interact with members of staff and each other. The portable projector means we can use it within big groups or on a one-to-one basis. Games are rich in colour, movement and detail and allow all of our residents to play in a safe and comfortable environment.

Mother's Day

West Oak celebrated Mother’s Day with an afternoon tea, with a section of nicely prepared sandwiches, cakes and sherry. It was a lovely afternoon and we all enjoyed celebrating the special day together with many cards, flowers and gifts. The staff and the residents were delighted to read through their Mother’s Day cards and reminisce.

Bedroom Visit

West Oak staff and residents are overjoyed to welcome back our families after nearly a year of our doors being closed.

These sisters were thrilled to finally be able to be in the same room together after such a long time being apart. They enjoyed their visit by playing one of their favourite daily games and finally being able to catch up properly.

The staff are really happy to see our families reunited and see so many happy faces again.

Pod Entertainment

West Oak was so pleased to be able to invite back one of their regular entertainers, Gary Roman, so sing in our visiting pod.

Residents and staff thoroughly enjoyed Gary’s mixture of songs and even had a little singalong and dance.

The music was soft and gentle with every word being heard clearly, with even our Home Manager and Admin assistant listening in.

We had a great afternoon with our residents enjoying the entertainment.
