Activities at Tixover House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Nicola Blevins-Twose

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Nicola (Nic) and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Tixover House.

My role is to enrich the lives of our residents by providing stimulating and person-centred activities, entertainers and outings. At Tixover House we offer something for everyone, including crafts, games, virtual visits to places of interest around the world, outings in the local area and parties.  We also provide one-to-one time and sensory activities with residents who need more support. Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular family and friends meeting we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining Tixover House.

I look forward to getting to know you, and your loved ones. 'Living life to the full' is my motto, and whatever your ability there is always something new to learn or try.

We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

Life at Tixover House Care Home

Nature Group

Over the past few months, we have been developing a bird station in the garden that is overlooked by the main residents' lounge.

We are lucky to have such rich natural surroundings, but have put some effort into drawing the birds out of the trees and hedges.

The residents use a mixture of bird seed and peanut butter to feed the birds. They have made a bird bath and a container with nesting materials in. We have gone from seeing no birds in this area of the garden to birds visiting our feeding station every day.

Christmas Spirit

The local school children made some decorations for our trees and a puzzle book. We also received a letter and Christmas card from them.

Bird Painting

Tixover House decided they wanted to add a bit of colour into their reception area. The residents were inspired whilst out on a walk and decided to make a floral display. We collected the leaves, pressed and dried them and then arranged them in a beautiful display. It now takes pride and place on our reception, welcoming in the autumn.

Harvest Celebrations

Tixover House is well into their harvest celebrations! We have been learning all about the harvest, as well as creating crafts and displays.

We recently held a 'scarecrow day'; all of the staff dressed in their finest scarecrow costumes and straw hats! We set to creating Tixover Hous's’ very own scarecrow, who Eileen named Jack!

It was a wonderful sensory experience for everyone involved. We are continuing our celebrations and soon will be dropping off lots of donations to the Stamford Food Bank.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Tixover House has been busy baking and creating lots of tasty treats for their ‘Macmillan Coffee Morning.’ Residents followed recipes and made wonderful chocolate fudge full with lots of different flavours. All residents were very keen and happy to raise lots of money for such a wonderful cause!

Beach Day

Residents at Tixover House have been desperate to go to the beach ever since the lovely hot weather started. Unable to do this, our activities coordinator came up with the next best thing, she brought the beach to them! With sand brought in and paddling pools our residents enjoyed a wonderful day in the sunshine.

They were spoilt with sweets and treats and even had a freezer full of ice creams donated kindly from Morrison’s. It was a superb day and was such an amazing sensory experience really boosting our residents spirits
