Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Co-Ordinator

Hi, I'm Alison.  I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Life at Sutton Grange Care Home

Bewitching tricks and spooky treats

Barchester’s Sutton Grange care home, in Banks was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween Masquerade Ball got in to full swing.  Residents and staff got in to the spirit of things by decorating the home/creating Halloween decorations, pumpkin carving and preparing for the Sutton Grange Masked Ball with entertainment by the spooktacular Rachel Rose.

Poetry Afternoon

Yesterday we had a wonderful afternoon in the garden reading some poetry. Our residents heard some of their favourite and classic poems, read out by Alison our activities coordinator and even read some of their own. Our beautiful garden was the peaceful setting we needed to relax with a glass of sherry and listen to the poems.

Bible Stories

We have a weekly bible stories session led by our friend in the community Claire. Our residents really enjoy listening to the stories from the bible and discussing it afterwards with a nice cup of tea or coffee.

Edinburgh Botanical Garden

Our homes enjoyed a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.

The residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.

Charlotte and Laura also gave a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.
