Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Co-Ordinator

Hi, I'm Alison.  I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Bible Stories

We have a weekly Bible Stories session here at Sutton Grange, which is facilitated by the wonderful Claire and Jenny.

Our residents really enjoy reading through the Bible Stories and discussing them afterwards with us all and chatting about what the enjoyed about going to church and listening to their own church services.

Chinese New Year Party

Here at Sutton Grange held our very own Chinese New Year Party.

We celebrated the Year of the Rabbit in style and had the amazing Steve Sutton performing for us. The music was wonderful and we were singing and dancing throughout the whole afternoon. Our activities Coordinator Rob dressed for the occasion and we had a Chinese New Year Quiz to finish off the afternoon.

Virtual event with Royal Parks

Across our services our residents have enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.

Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.

The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Magic Table

We love our Magic Table and our residents really enjoy playing all the different games that are installed. We played some word association games, listened to some interactive music and as you can see in the photo touching the flowers makes them so big they cover the table which the ladies really liked.

Coffee Morning

We have regular coffee mornings here at Sutton Grange, our residents enjoy talking about lots of different things but here we were chatting about the up coming Burns Day and Chinese New Year, the history of both and about the celebrations we are having at the home for both events.

Film Afternoon

Our residents love nothing more than getting comfortable in our Bistro and watching some Poirot on our big screen with a cup of tea, coffee or a sherry. Everyone really enjoyed the mystery of the missing pearls and we chatted afterwards to see who figured the thief out.
