Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Co-Ordinator

Hi, I'm Alison.  I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

National Elf Day and making Christmas Spirit boards

Sutton Grange's resident Elf, Sparkles came to see us on his way to the North Pole and served our residents with some delicious home made Mince Pies, made by our kitchen team.

Sparkles also stayed and played some Elf Bingo with our residents which went down a treat, everyone said how much fun the Elf Bingo was and looked forward to playing again throughout the Christmas period.

Our residents also made some Christmas Spirit boards which we wrote on what gives us the Christmas Spirit and decorated them with some lovely Christmas stickers.

Sweet Treat Making Virtual Event

We recently had a virtual event, which all of our residents found fascinating. One of our other Barchester homes chefs kindly showed us all how to decorate some tasty Christmas treats. Everyone who got involved said they had such an amazing time all coming together and going through each process carefully to make them all the same as was being shown on our big screen. The finished results were amazing and very tasty too!

Visited by our friend from Stocks Hall Maudsley

Our residents had a visit from our new friends Stocks Hall Mawdesley who came and spent the morning with us having a coffee and some of our Christmas Cake we made for our Christmas Cake competition.

We had a wonderful time connecting with the other residents and making new friends whilst enjoying our refreshments and a friendly quiz. We are looking forward to catching up with our newly made friends in the new year.

School Choir Festive Visit

This morning we were treated to a Christmas carol service from Banks St. Stephens C of E Primary School choir.

The children brought some festive cheer to the home wearing their Christmas jumpers and singing Christmas songs. Residents and staff sang and clapped along and some even had a little boogie.

The children brought along handmade Christmas cards for the Residents, which they handed out whilst sharing some yummy refreshments.

Minibus Trip to the Garden Centre

We recently took a trip on our minibus to Briarlee Garden Centre to browse the Christmas decorations and displays.

Our Residents had a great time exploring the Christmas displays which brought back memories of shopping for their decorations at home.

Once we had finished having a look around we hopped back onto the minibus and headed back to Sutton Grange for a nice warm cup of tea.

Intergenerational Baking

The wonderful children from Banks of St Stephens School visited us for some baking fun in our bistro. The children and our residents had an amazing time making some tasty pancakes and some rice crispy cakes which our activities team dropped off at the school later on in the day for snack time at the school. Our residents really enjoy engaging with the children and our excited for more Christmas fun with us closer to the big day.
