Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Assistant

Hi, I'm Alison. I am the Activities Assistant here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Life at Sutton Grange Care Home

Herstory of Mayfair

‘Herstory’ of Mayfair

Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair. The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.

We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas.  The experience was truly enjoyed by all.

A dog is for life

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Jennifer and Emily from Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity. Jennifer and Emily took us on a journey to discover the rich history of Dogs Trust and their facilities.

Using captivating video and photo footage, our residents were able to explore rehoming centres and learn more about the highest level of welfare offered there. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our dog lovers.

Reminisence Games Coffee Morning

We all had a wonderful time in our bistro playing some games and reminiscing about how and what games we used to play whilst we were younger.

Our residents had a fabulous time and the conversation went from games to school days, what their children were like at home and all the mischief the children got up to.

We enjoyed some tea, coffee and biscuits throughout, then returned back to our communities for lunch.

Mad Hatter's Tea Party

The Mad Hatter made an appearance on our memory lane community and set up for his tea party which of course all our home was invited.

The Hatter danced throughout the afternoon with our residents to the entertainment which was provided by the amazing Rachel Rose. In between the dancing, our residents sampled all the amazing cakes made by the march hare himself!

Our residents said they had an amazing time.

Garden Fun

Our residents like nothing more than to relax in our beautiful gardens. We had some relaxing fun reading, listening to music and having a chat with our activities coordinator Rob about their own gardens and what things they used to do to keep them beautiful.

Hawaiian Luau

Our residents had an amazing time recently at our Hawaiian Luau in our bistro. We had entertainment from the wonderful Rachel Rose along with cocktails, Hawaiian punch slushes and fruit kebabs.

All our residents said they had a an amazing time dancing and singing along to Rachel’s singing and the fruit kebabs were very tasty.
