Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Co-Ordinator

Hi, I'm Alison.  I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Coffee and Chat Morning

We love our coffee mornings here at Sutton Grange.

Recently we enjoyed a cup of coffee or tea, whilst doing some themed wordsearches, crosswords and chatting about the history of the local area.

Our residents commented on how much they enjoyed chatting, reading through local history books and looking at pictures of Southport of old.

Art Historian virtual talk

Residents across our services had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.

Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.

Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes.  It was a truly lovely time for all.

Coronation Party

Saturday we had a wonderful time celebrating our new kings coronation.

We started with watching the coronation service and being part of history watching a new monarch crowned, although some of our residents were telling us this is their second coronation they had witnessed.

We then had our street party lunch which was amazing, the traditional street party food made by our kitchen team was fabulous and went down a treat.

As you can see our residents really enjoyed the street party, then we had the amazing Rachel Rose come and sing for us in the afternoon.

Coronation history

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

Garden Centre Trip

We recently  took a trip to our local garden centre, Dobbies, for a look around and to see if there was any seeds we could pick up to plant in out garden.

Whilst we were there we had a look at all the amazing plants and flowers, we even had a look at all the different seeds for our garden.

Our residents loved walking around Dobbies and we even had time to pop into the aquatics centre whilst we were there and check out all the fish.

Therapy pets

Yesterday we had a visit from Woody one of our therapy dogs. Our residents love it when Woody comes to visit and he took a trip around Sutton Grange visiting everyone and making their day.

As you can see Woody was having a fabulous time on our residents laps and our residents commented on how nice it was to see him again.
