Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Assistant

Hi, I'm Alison. I am the Activities Assistant here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Easter Celebrations

We have been very busy with Easter Celebrations. Our local Vicar, Rebecca visited us to deliver an Easter Church Service and we sang a few of our favourite hymns.  After the service we all gathered for a chat with home-made shortbread and a hot brew.  Rebecca will be back on Friday 12th April at 11am for her next visit.  Please join us.

We have also enjoyed an afternoon making Easter bonnets for our parade and competition.  It's always a treat to let our creative side run wild and we were pleased to welcome family and friends for the occassion.

Ladies Day Out

It was a day dedicated to the ladies as we headed out for a minibus trip to Booths Cafe in Hesketh Bank.

We enjoyed a nice cup of tea/coffee and chatted the afternoon away with one of our ladies family members and our hostess Elise who joined us for a brew and chat.

Afterwards we braved the rain and even though it was tippling down our ladies managed a smile for a photo.

Morning of Games and Magic Table

We had a morning of games and our Residents spent time playing classics like Snakes and Ladders as well as using our amazing Magic Table. We had an impromptu visit from Aga who is the activities lead at Glenroyd Care Home - Barchester Healthcare and she joined in with us in the fun.

In the afternoon we had two ladies from West Lancashire Pensioners Forum who came to chat to our residents about the forum and what they do throughout the year. The Forum had been given £1000 by Barchesters Charitable Foundation and the ladies were more than happy to have their photo taken with their cheque.

Valentine's Day

Residents and their loved ones spent precious time together celebrating Valentine's Day.

Our wonderful culinary team created a special Valentine's Afternoon Tea and we turned our coffee shop area into a themed restaurant, which later transformed into a dance floor as we were treated to a musical performance from a talented ukulele group.

We enjoyed spreading the love this Valentine's Day!

Race Afternoon

To celebrate Horse Racing Day here at Sutton Grange we had lots of fun at our Virtual Race afternoon.

Our Residents placed their bets and had a great time cheering their favourite nags as they raced towards the finish line. We also chatted about when some of our Residents had a little flutter in their younger days.

Afterwards Residents said they had lots of fun and are looking forward to our next race meet.

Burns celebrations

Residents, families and staff at Sutton Grange Care Home in Banks participated in the annual celebration of Burns Night with traditional Scottish delicacies and themed music.

To mark the Scottish institution, Head Chef, Dean delivered the time-honoured address ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding race’ – the haggis and Residents enjoyed a tipple of whisky and a nibble of shortbread to round of the event.
