Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Co-Ordinator

Hi, I'm Alison.  I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Life at Sutton Grange Care Home

Floral demonstration

Our homes had a lovely time joining Sue and Nicole from Ferndown Florist for an intriguing flower arrangement workshop in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Our residents enjoyed a wonderful virtual demonstration and got inspired to create their own flower posies for our Jubilee displays.  Our home will be specially decorated for the upcoming festivities. Stay tuned.

Jubilee celebrations fit for a Queen

Excitement has been running high at Sutton Grange in Banks where residents and staff have been busy making Jubilee-themed decorations and baking up a storm of red, white and blue cakes and pastries with the help of head chef Pauls Gilbert in preparation for the Jubilee.

Staff and residents at the home put their heads together and came up with a plan for their celebrations fit for a Queen.  Over the bank holiday weekend the home held a garden party/ with live entertainment from a Ukulele Band. The whole home came together to celebrate our longest reigning monarch and reminisce about what she means to each and every one of us.

Star of Nimrod

We had a lovely time joining Graham Whitlock for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘The Crystal Palace Chronicles: Star of Nimrod’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fictional character Joe, who went on a rollercoaster adventure travelling back in time to the heyday of Victorian Crystal Palace.

Everyone had lots of fun during the virtual talk, as Graham took them on a clever and hilarious adventure. A great time was had by all.

Residents enjoy military display

Residents at Sutton Grange care home in Banks were treated to an amazing experience looking at all the military vehicles from Heaton Bridge Military Vehicles Group.  Staff at Cleveland House, a part of the Priory group invited Sutton Grange to the event.

All the residents from Sutton Grange attended the event with their families and had a wonderful time, explored all the different vehicles, chatted with the staff from Heaton Bridge and looking at all the military weapons they had brought to show everyone.

Kathryn one of our residents family members commented “We had a wonderful time, it was beautiful to see all the residents having a great time. My grandson came along also to the event and had the time of his life he said. Staff work so hard to involve our loved ones in these fun events and its lovely to see events like this take place”

Sing Along With Neil Diamond

Our residents love a good old singsong, so we had an afternoon with Neil Diamond. Everyone loved singing to all his catalogue of hits from Sweet Caroline to Forever in Blue Jeans.

Postal Talk

Our residents really enjoyed a virtual history tour of the postal service and how it was transformed from a local service to a global delivery service.
