Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Co-Ordinator

Hi, I'm Alison.  I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Life at Sutton Grange Care Home

Hark the Herald Angels sing...

Heavenly voices rang out at Sutton Grange Care Home as Banks of St. Stephens School came to celebrate Christmas with a carol concert.  Staff and residents at Barchester’s Sutton Grange Care Home, in Banks, got in the Christmas spirit by inviting the school to come and perform a carol concert to sing some festive Christmas favourites.  The singing was led by Michelle Mussell one of the teachers at Banks of St. Stephens

There was hot chocolate, and biscuits along with lots of other Christmas treats all prepared by head chef, Dean McKeown] to get everyone feeling festive.

Donkey Sanctuary Manchester

Across our services, Residents enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of the Donkey Sanctuary Manchester. Residents were thrilled to meet the lovely herd of donkeys, including Henry and his best friend Tiny Tim and to learn more about their every day care.  They were introduced to the sanctuary’s work and the impact they make to the lives of donkeys in need worldwide.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Birthday celebrations

Celebrations have been in full swing at Sutton Grange Care Home as one of its residents reaches her 90th Birthday in style.   Jean was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as she received lots of presents and cards of her landmark birthday. A party was held in the homes bistro, Jean and guests enjoyed a special birthday cake brought in by her loved ones.

Reminiscence

We had a reminiscence session with a 'borrowbox' sent to us by the Royal Mint Museum.

Our residents had access to some wonderful items that brought back some memories including very special limited-edition coins, and some photos that all had a story to tell with the use of technology.

Christmas Card Making

We recently got started with preparations for Christmas by making some beautifully hand-crafted Christmas Cards. Our residents loved searching through all the decorations for the cards and personalised each card ready to send to their loved ones.

We had such a lovely time, starting to feel the Christmas spirit.

We had a wonderful time celebrating our lovely Jean’s 90th Birthday in style with entertainment from the amazing Rachel Rose and lots of Jeans family and friends coming along to celebrate with her. Jean said she had a wonderful time and enjoyed the singing.
