Activities at Southerndown Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Activities Co-ordinator

I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

Aqua Painting

Here at Southerndown some of our residents really enjoy Aqua paints, so much so we thought we would buy some new ones to try. Our favourites are definitely the flowers as they remind us of the flowers we have growing in our sensory garden.

Reminiscence Therapy

Our residents had a lively morning with our ever expanding reminiscence suitcase. The biggest hit of the day was a 1940s newspaper which we enjoyed reading and we found some of the advertising quite amusing.

Everyone really enjoyed looking at all of the different bits and bobs, and it brought back some very fond memories.

Tending Young Growth

Fun in the garden, what a busy day we have had in the today. Tending to the peas and also the cucumbers we are currently growing. Our residents enjoyed watering all of our plants and we even had time for a leisurely stroll around the grounds, making the most of this wonderful weather.

Gone Fishing...

After a lively getting to know me session we found out that so many residents enjoyed fishing, so we thought we would try a magnetic fishing game. It was such a fun and an extremely competitive afternoon. Magnetic fishing isn’t as easy as it looks but we soon got the hang of it!
