Activities at Southerndown Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Cathy Wheeler

Activity Co-ordinator

I have been with the team at Southerndown since 2023

People ask me what I enjoy about my job and the answer is easy... 'the people'. Its the small things that make the difference every day, seeing people smile and seeing someone respond positively to interaction. We offer a great life enrichment programme at Southerndown and every day is different but enjoyable.

In my spare time I like to spend time in the garden, I enjoy sewing but mostly love spending time with my grandchildren

Sensory Arts & Crafts

The residents of Blenheim Gardens love getting creative. From making pictures with foam shapes to manipulating sensory dough. Natasha spent time with each member of the group helping them to create their personal artworks.

Local Village Day Trip and Ices

With the sun shining and ice cream calling! We took the residents of Southerndown out for a mini bus trip around the beautiful local villages and towns. We travelled to Moreton-In-Marsh and then stopped off at Stow on the Wold and watched the world go by. We found an old fashioned ice cream seller and all enjoyed some delicious ice cream. It was so wonderful to get out and about we can’t wait to plan our next trip.

The Southerndown Salons are Open!

We are absolutely delighted to have our two hairdressing salons open again for our residents. We have a new hairdresser called Emma, and she has been very busy in our salons pampering our residents.

Our ladies and gents have been enjoying every minute, its so lovely to have the salons open again.

Enjoying our Sensory Garden

We are making to most of the good weather and spending time in our relaxing sensory garden. One of our residents decided they would help with the watering, and we were enjoying the weather so much we decided to have our morning tea in the garden.

Aqua Painting

Here at Southerndown some of our residents really enjoy Aqua paints, so much so we thought we would buy some new ones to try. Our favourites are definitely the flowers as they remind us of the flowers we have growing in our sensory garden.

Reminiscence Therapy

Our residents had a lively morning with our ever expanding reminiscence suitcase. The biggest hit of the day was a 1940s newspaper which we enjoyed reading and we found some of the advertising quite amusing.

Everyone really enjoyed looking at all of the different bits and bobs, and it brought back some very fond memories.
