Activities at Southerndown Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Employee of the Month - October 2021

The residents and staff at Southerndown care home took time to applaud our Maintenance Assistant; Anderi Mereu for being nominated as ‘Employee of the Month’ for October 2021.

Anderi has gone above and beyond his role in support of the Southerndown team and our residents over the past month. We all felt Anderi really deserved extra recognition for the amazing work he does every day!

Our Home Manager, Rosalynn congratulated Anderi on the achievement, presenting him with a £25 voucher as a special THANK YOU. “I’m delighted to have such a multitasking and talented individual working as part of our team, I hope this award goes some way towards showing how much Anderi’s hard work is valued."

Anderi we all think you're a 'Southerndown Super Star! Enjoy the accolade and recognition.

Welcome to Southerndown - Beth

On a chilly autumn day there's nothing nicer than a hot drink! Our newly appointed Activities Coordinator; Beth is enjoying getting to know our residents and decided to make them all a super sized 'posh' hot chocolate whilst she sits and chats.

What a delicious way to say Hi!

Reminiscence and Rock n Roll

‘If Music Be the Food of Love, Play On’

We all know music is a wonderful way to lift spirits and can be so good for continued wellbeing. For those living with dementia, music can often promote good memories and a sing along. Our Team Leader and Dementia champion; John has just donated a vintage record player to our Blenheim Gardens residents and we can’t wait to get out the vinyl records and set that needle playing!

If any of our Facebook friends have some golden oldie vinyl’s gathering dust, we’d love to give them a spin, please email our activities team on Southerndown.Activities@barchester.com we’d be happy to collect.

We’re ready to Reminiscence and Rock n Roll.

Christmas-themed Floristry Masterclass

Our staff and residents were treated to an interactive virtual Christmas-themed floristry masterclass courtesy of Master Florist, Michal Kowalski, from Blooming Haus - Floral Engineers

Blooming Haus, is one of the UK’s most innovative floral design and artisan studios. With sustainability and seasonality at the core of their designs, the duo behind Blooming Haus - Michal Kowalski and his business partner, Michael Dariane, bring a completely fresh approach to floristry and their ambition to push the boundaries of traditional floristry has laid the foundations of Blooming Haus’ success to date.

Residents; Michael and Beryl joined our Home Manager; Rosalynn and Activities Coordinator Beth to watch the live stream. They all took so many notes to share with their fellow residents during our arts & crafts session later this week.

With the larger group we will be taking inspiration from the Blooming Haus team and combining Michael and Beryl's thoughts on how to create the best Christmas Wreath.

Blooming Haus' have invited all Barchester Residents to enter into a Facebook competition judged by Michal and Michael to win Love2Shop vouchers. We'll post our entry once complete for you all to see.
