Visited southerndown Carehome on sports day. It was really good to see how the staffs take care of the residents who stay with them. The hospitality of this Carehome should be given 5 star because all the staffs are very friendly. Each and every staffs including the Manager and the Deputy manager was part of the events conducted on the sports day. Many residents participated and it was good to see them happy and enjoying. Love to volunteer again if needed.

I recently sang for the residents at Southerndown on their open day and I had a fantastic time singing for everyone. The residents seemed very happy in their beautiful home and looked like they had a great time singing along. They were helped by the activities staff who were fabulous, encouraging the residents to sing and move to the music. The staff in general were really welcoming, friendly and helpful. Looking forward to singing for you all again in the future!

Lovely care home in a beautiful setting. Food is terrific and facilities are wonderful. All supported with an amazing team that run the care home to a high standard with respect and dignity.

I attended a professional lunch at Southerndown today. I was greeted by the general manager Shilpa and her team, i couldn’t fault them, all were very welcoming and professional.
The revamp of the rooms are completed to a high standard and the food was delicious, more importantly the residents were happy 😍I wish Shilpa and her team every success in the future.

A water feature would look lovely in memory lanes court yard.

The carehome has such a warm luxury feeling so hygienic and calm for all. Overall my grandad has felt so comfortable and happy for his week stay here. "My dad was only in the home for 5 days before he passed away, but we felt he was in the best place. The home was calm & peaceful, and his room was bright and clean. The staff were lovely, caring both for my dad & the family who came to visit. They made his sad end as comfortable and peaceful as possible. We are all very grateful."

"Our mother has lived in Southern Down since October 2023. We have been really happy with her care here. All of the staff are so caring and friendly. Our mother has been very happy and well cared for - the carers and nurses are all lovely, as are the reception staff and managers. The activity coordinators are fantastic and run a great personalised programme throughout the week - we are impressed how they involve residents with all sorts of needs (our mother has dementia among other things). They are also very good at communicating with us as a family. Would recommend!"

"This home has a lovely atmosphere of loving care. There has evidently been much attention to detail in the decor inside and the growing vision for the patio garden. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for the staff in their attitude to both residents and visitors. We came down from Scotland to see our friend and we're so glad we did. Great visit!"

"I visited Southerndown Care Home yesterday for the first time. I was made exceptionally welcome by several different members of staff and was very impressed by the renovations that have been done over the past year. Each area is themed which I am sure helps the residents feel at home, nothing seemed too much for the staff to deal with. I was surprised at the standard of the rooms both the residents own rooms and the communal rooms. My, obviously outdated, thoughts on what a Care Home is like couldn't be more incorrect as far as Southerndown is concerned."

"My mum was placed here as her dementia deteriorated very quickly after my brother's death and she could no longer be cared for by my father who was 90. I didn't know a lot about dementia before this point, as my mum was only diagnosed a few months before she moved here. However, the team and manager were so helpful, answering all of my questions and helping my mum settle in. I truly admire the staff and the job they do at Southerndown. They are always patient, happy, and engaging with people in their care. My mum seemed to know everyone in Memory Lane very quickly, and when I came to visit, they were always happy to chat, and I could just tell my mum was happy in what could have been a very stressful time (sadly, my dad passed away while she was here). The facilities are of high standard and Mum always speaks very positively about the food (especially the cake!). Huge thank you to everyone at Southerdown for supporting me and Mum during her stay."

"My 90-year-old mum recently spent a few days at Southerndown Care home in order to be able to attend her granddaughter's wedding. She was a little nervous about coming but was soon put at ease by the caring and compassionate staff, who did everything to make sure that the stay went smoothly. Her medication was handled extremely efficiently and we were also impressed by the quality of the food. The whole stay went very smoothly and as well as attending the wedding, mum felt that she had had a little holiday. Thank you to the fantastic team at Southerndown for making this possible."

"Generally very positive. My father is treated with kindness and respect. He is unable to ask for things or mistakenly believes he cannot have them, so constant offering of drinks and snacks would be welcome. The room is not smart but is adequate."

"Although my sister was only a resident at Southerndown for a few months, she could not have found a better home. For the first time in 2-3 years after the initial week or two, I have not found her so contented. The staff are kind and caring and there is generally a lovely atmosphere in the home."

"Mum has been here now for 5 months and is as settled as can be. Southerndown is a warm and caring environment and I am much reassured by the thoughtfulness and friendliness of the staff towards my mum, they seem to be doing the very best they can to care for her. "Some staff are not good on night duty! Lift out of action (2-3 weeks working) in one year! Help to make sure clothes are returned properly. Help when finished on the toilet/or dressing and undressing and making sure that clothing is down and comfortably tucked in! Curtains hanging off rails for 1 year in two places on landings! Why can the owner be in a nontaxable country and not worry?"

"My late father and my 94-year-old mother have received excellent care from nurses, carers, cleaners and the manager. They have cooperated with my sister and me when we have raised issues. My only negative is that the lift hasn't been for approximately 2 months which has added to my mother's mental confusion. The best thing would be to buy a new one."

"My grandmother was a resident at Southerndown Care Home from September 2022 - May 2023, when she passed away aged 100. The care provided was fantastic. The care home was a pleasant place to visit and residents always appeared content. They provided the family with a lovely home when we could no longer cope with my grandmother at home. We would recommend Southerndown without reservation."

"My husband with Frontotemporal dementia stayed for 1 week for respite care so I could have a break. He told me he liked it very much, staff are excellent and food lovely. He is trying to lose weight and the chef prepared him lovely light meals. He did some baking and Book Club and made some friends. He has said he would like to return in the future as he felt at home. The care team are so good and he felt cared for throughout his stay."

"I found my husband well dressed and having had his lunch, but still had room for a cake brought to him. He couldn't remember the house we lived in together, despite my showing photos of it - so sad. I tried to speak to a nurse who I had great difficulty understanding and was none the wiser about my husband's condition."

"Barchester Southerndown Care Home provided incredible, kind, selfless care to my mother throughout her time in the home, from November 2022 until October 2023. We, as a family, have nothing but praise for the staff there who kept Mum smiling and laughing despite everything her dementia was doing to her. We would not have had Mum anywhere else. Thank you from all of us and from the bottom of our hearts."

"My friend has been in Southerndown for just over a year, and I have visited her pretty well every week (except when away). I consider her well looked after and believe she is contented. I haven't really seen any activities, and I am not paying the fees, so have left "activities and value for money" blank. Otherwise, I give everything good - staff excellent.
