I am a musician and I play at quite a few care homes. Today was my first performance at Southern Down. I was treated like an old friend and made to feel most welcome. The building appeared well maintained and, most importantly, the residents seemed well looked after and content... And, of course, they booked me! But I can honestly say I have played at quite a few Barchester homes now and they are always exemplary, Southern Down is no exception.

I had a fantastic experience at Southerndown Barchester. The home itself is beautifully kept, but what really stood out was the team. The home manager was genuinely lovely—approachable, kind, and clearly passionate about the care provided. The maintenance team were excellent, always helpful and on top of everything. The reception staff were so friendly and welcoming, and honestly, every single member of the team was outstanding. You can really feel the warmth and professionalism throughout the home. Would highly recommend!

"My dad was only in the home for 5 days before he passed away, but we felt he was in the best place. The home was calm & peaceful, and his room was bright and clean. The staff were lovely, caring both for my dad & the family who came to visit. They made his sad end as comfortable and peaceful as possible. We are all very grateful."

"Our mother has lived in Southern Down since October 2023. We have been really happy with her care here. All of the staff are so caring and friendly. Our mother has been very happy and well cared for - the carers and nurses are all lovely, as are the reception staff and managers. The activity coordinators are fantastic and run a great personalised programme throughout the week - we are impressed how they involve residents with all sorts of needs (our mother has dementia among other things). They are also very good at communicating with us as a family. Would recommend!"

Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for the staff in their attitude to both residents and visitors. We came down from Scotland to see our friend and we're so glad we did. Great visit!"

"I visited Southerndown Care Home yesterday for the first time. I was made exceptionally welcome by several different members of staff and was very impressed by the renovations that have been done over the past year. Each area is themed which I am sure helps the residents feel at home, nothing seemed too much for the staff to deal with. I was surprised at the standard of the rooms both the residents own rooms and the communal rooms. My, obviously outdated, thoughts on what a Care Home is like couldn't be more incorrect as far as Southerndown is concerned."
