Following significant investment, Southerndown has a brand new look! The appearance of our home has been carefully designed with the people we care for in mind. Our bright new reception area is the perfect spot for socialising or taking part in one of our many daily activities. Our beautiful new dining room is a wonderful place to enjoy a three-course home-made lunch and our new bedrooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated. Why not take a look at our virtual tour to see our brand new look? Or alternatively, pop in to our home to see for yourself!

We are proud to be accredited as part of Barchester’s 10-60-06 Dementia Care programme, reflecting the enhanced quality of dementia care and improved quality of life experienced by residents here at Southerndown.

We are situated in the beautiful market town of Chipping Norton in the gorgeous, rolling Cotswold Hills in the district of Oxfordshire, about 12 miles (19 km) southwest of Banbury and 18 miles (29 km) northwest of Oxford. We provide 24-hour nursing care and personal support to frail older people, people with long term illnesses, people with sensory deficits and people living with dementia, who are cared for in our specialist ‘Memory Lane’ community.

Our approach to care is based on careful assessments leading to a personalised and regularly reviewed care plan. Drawn up with the individual concerned and with relatives the care plan provides the basis for medical and rehabilitative work, making sure that dietary needs and preferences are met and the basis for our activities work, which we see as the heart of what we do - to keep up to date with our latest activities and events, please keep popping back to our website to see what we have been up to and what is coming up.

From the minute you enter Southerndown, you will feel the warmth radiating from the caring and homely atmosphere we provide. We want everyone who comes to stay or visit to have a wonderful, memorable experience.

Please feel free to drop in at any time, no appointment needed. Or just come along and have a coffee and a chat to see what we are all about. We hope to welcome you to Southerndown very soon.

Mandy Vettraino

Senior General Manager

Welcome to Southerndown Care Home!

My name is Mandy Vettraino and I am the Senior General Manager here.

My career in nursing started as a carer, where I worked my way up the ladder, where I eventually became a General Manager. Since 2000, I have managed 3 homes in Oxford, supporting elderly residents with nursing and dementia care.

I like to be involved with the residents and their families, it is a home for every one and high quality care with a holistic approach is essential. In 2013 I was presented with a dignity in care award from Age UK. My team here in Southerndown are champions together in ensuring dignity and true quality care is always the priority.

Our care

Southerndown provides person-centred nursing care for people in need of support or for individuals living with dementia. We understand that each resident has individual needs that we need to tailor our care to, so our services are designed to provide the very best for each of them, based on their personal requirements, and to help them maintain as much independence as possible. In our latest CQC inspection we received an overall outcome of 'Good'.
