Activities at Sherwood Court Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Sherwood Court Care Home

Tinkling of the ivories

Residents enjoyed an afternoon of music and singing along to their favourite songs and dancing the afternoon away. Everyone joined in the fun and were delighted when one of the Residents took to tinkling the ivories for a special performance. A great time was had by all, Residents said that the sound of the piano was beautiful and her performance was a delight to see.

Keeping Busy

Residents enjoyed spending some time brass cleaning with our Activities Coordinators.

Messages of Love

Residents at Sherwood Court recently sent wonderful handmade hearts with a personalised message and poems inside to their loved ones. The home's Admin Assistant, Lynn, made the handcrafted hearts for our residents to cheer their loved ones up during isolation and to let them know they are thinking of them and sending their love.

A Mystery Message

Staff were thrilled to come out to this wonderful thank you message left by a mystery person. It definitely brightened up the day for the staff coming on shift and leaving shift.

An Everyday Hero!

James Teasdale, Activities Coordinator at Sherwood Court, received a nomination for the BBC's 'Everyday Hero' award from a family member. This is what they said:

‘Please can I nominate James Teasdale as an unsung hero! James works as an Activities Coordinator at Sherwood Court in Fulwood Preston. He previously worked as a carer; he often works extra hours and covers additional shifts. When the lockdown occurred, he went out of his way to FaceTime and Skype for families.

He also covered additional shifts including, working in laundry. He has sent us pictures and videos of my mum; he organised a faith service for residents on Easter Sunday. It was Mum's birthday today, and he photocopied photos I sent and organised us to see videos. He works so hard! He shows such care and consideration, not thinking of himself but others.

On a daily basis he puts himself at risk to care for the elderly, frail and those in need. He and all the staff are exceptional in their care; please recognise their efforts!'

The team are immensely proud of this nomination and are working together to keep residents safe and well.

Over the Rainbow

Residents of Sherwood Court have been busy making rainbows, which they have displayed on windows throughout the home in recognition of the NHS and all the care key-workers out there.

The idea is that members of community display rainbows in their windows so that children can go ‘rainbow spotting’ when out for their exercise with family. The colourful displays are brightening up everyone’s day! The Facebook group has over 90,000 members and the home is delighted to be part of the community spirit.
