Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Sherwood Court Care Home
Flower power with Blooming Haus
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Sherwood Court Nursing Home in Preston were treated to an interactive virtual floristry masterclass courtesy of Master Florist, Michal Kowalski, from Blooming Haus.
Blooming Haus started with a small pop-up shop in Chelsea. They have since blossomed spectacularly on to the floristry scene as ‘floral engineers’, carving themselves an outstanding reputation as one of the UK’s most innovative floral design studios. The company is the vision of Master Florist, Michal Kowalski and his business partner, Michael Dariane. The pair bring a completely fresh approach to floristry and their ambition to push the boundaries of traditional floristry has laid the foundations of Blooming Haus’ success to date.
Return of outings with loved ones!
Residents at Sherwood Court Nursing Home care home in Preston were celebrating being able to go on trips out again as lockdown restrictions eased across the country. Residents are now able to go on a short trip with their designated visitor without having to isolate on their return.
Mary Bonny from Sherwood Court Nursing Home enjoyed a long-awaited trip to her daughter Linda Watson’s house where Mary was able to celebrate her 84th birthday party. Mary’s daughter Linda said “it was wonderful to be able to get mum home for her birthday.” Mary was full of laugher and smiles when returned after a lovely afternoon with family. Mary spend the day laughing with Tony reminiscing about lost time. Mary was the first resident to leave the home after lockdown restrictions eased.
Voyage of discovery
Chef Alex whipped up some tasty, healthy vegetarian snacks in a live, interactive cookery demo. Much to residents’ delight, Sherwood Court head chef had prepared the same recipes so that residents could try all the dishes. Residents sampled delicious, light and summery veggie dishes including Borlotti bean and dill pate, Greek fritters with Tzatziki and Coronation 'chicken' pastries. All finished off with a sweet and simple but totally yummy banana bread.
Vegetarian for life host cookery demo
To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents at Barchester’s Sherwood Court were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.
Alex says “It was an absolute pleasure to be able to prepare these dishes for the Barchester residents and even more so because they got to taste them, despite my not being able to be there in person. Thanks to all the chefs in Barchester homes across the country who supported me to deliver this really lovely activity.”
Fitness guru joins residents for virtual event
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Sherwood Court were treated to an armchair work out courtesy of the Green Goddess, Diana Moran, and Shackleton’s furniture company, followed by a mindfulness session led by Shackleton’s Emma Raybould.
Diana rose to fame as a glamorous fitness guru on BBC’s Breakfast Time in the 1980’s and has made an outstanding contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of people in the UK. She now brings that experience to Shackletons as their Health and Wellness Adviser.
VE Day at Sherwood Court
Sherwood Court Nursing in Preston marked the anniversary of VE Day in style by throwing a 1940s afternoon tea party to remember. The home was decorated in red, white and blue and residents and staff enjoyed making homemade wreaths in memory of the victory of Europe they laughed shared stories of their time serving and growing up through the war!
Activities coordinators, Emma and James both took their time to lay the wreaths at the local cenotaph in Preston on behalf of the all the residents at Sherwood Court. They enjoyed an afternoon of big band music and dancing.
Head chef, Amanda Clancy whipped up a delicious selection of freshly-baked biscuits, sandwiches, cakes and pastries for the occasion, all washed down with pots of tea and a celebratory glass of fizz to mark the occasion.
