Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Joanne Gadd
Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.

Life at Shawford Springs Care Home
Hanging Basket Winter Planting
We’d like to say thank you to Barry for helping us pick a selection of beautiful primroses from our neighbours George Beckett Nurseries to go in our winter hanging baskets.
Library - Crafting
We’d like to say a big thank you to our lovely Jean, who has been helping us create some beautiful decorations out of vintage book pages for our library opening next week.
Out and about .... A Trip back in Time
This week some of our gents took a trip to Royal Armouries Fort Nelson near Porchester.
They enjoyed spending the afternoon looking at the vast array of military exhibits on display & reading about the history of the fort.
The group hope to arrange a return trip in the Summer so they can explore the outside areas & tunnels.
A big thank you to the staff at Fort Nelson for being so welcoming.
A Scottish Celebration.... Burns Night
Last week we celebrated Burns Night in style with a Scottish feast of cock-a-leekie soup, haggis, neeps & tatties, cranachan & a dram of Scotch whisky. Then in the afternoon we enjoyed a sing-along courtesy of pianist Brian whilst enjoying Elisa’s delicious home made shortbread.
A big thank you to our marvellous head chef Clifford for the fantastic meal & to Brian for the afternoon’s entertainment.
Mini bus travels ...Out and about in our community
We had a lovely outing to Beechcroft Farm Shop & Tea Barn this week for a cup of tea in the sunshine. The farm is situated on the outskirts of Winchester & enjoys beautiful rural views of the Hampshire countryside. We very much enjoyed our visit so will definitely be returning in the Spring
Keeping fit and Healthy
We enjoy regular fitness sessions as part of our weekly activities program here at Shawford Springs. One of our most popular classes is run by Karen from SitFit whose sessions are always high energy and full of fun. So we’d like to say a big thank you to her for helping to keep us all active.
