Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Joanne Gadd

Activities Co-ordinator

Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Shawford Springs Care Home

A trip to the Garden Centre

Last week the weather may have been cold & grey, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying a visit to In-Excess Garden Centre in Fair Oak for coffee & cake in their lovely café area.

The residents had a mosey round the centre, taking in all it has to offer and of course ending up with the beautiful home made cake makes all the difference to a trip out.

Beautiful Butterflies

As part of our weekly activities programme, we plan regular outings out and about in our home’s own dedicated minibus. To decide where to go each week, we regularly ask our residents for their suggestions & requests, and last week’s destination was chosen by our lovely David. David has a keen interest in the natural world, so he asked if we could organise an outing to the Natural History Museum & Butterfly House in Portsmouth. Cumberland House Natural History MuseumWell, the outing was a big success and David said that he thoroughly enjoyed spending the morning taking in the various museum exhibits. The highlight of the trip however was a visit to the museum’s amazing butterfly house, where you can wander among the trees & shrubs whilst a flutter of beautiful butterflies fly around you.

Fun at Full Swing!

We recently we took part in a table tennis tournament at Shawford Springs. Not only was it a lot of fun, but it got us all moving too!

Who knew we had so many hidden talents among us. The residents certainly put the staff to the test. Not that any of us are competitive!

Cat's and Coffee

Last week we enjoyed a ‘purrfect’ morning at the Paws For Thought Cat Cafe in Romsey. Many of our residents are cat lovers & have had feline companions throughout their lives, so we knew that a trip to cat café would be a popular choice! We’d like to thank the staff (and of course all the wonderful cats too) for being so friendly and welcoming, we’ll definitely be returning for another visit in the future.

Awesome Animals

Today we enjoyed a very special visit from Em & her gorgeous farm animals. We all absolutely loved meeting Wallace the sheep, Honey the pony, Forest the pig & an unbelievably cute pair of 11 week old goats. We’d like to thank Em & her animals for braving the chilly weather to come and see us today.

Coffee with company

Yesterday, some of our ladies braved the chilly weather to take a trip to one of our favourite places for coffee, Pinkmead Bistro and Tearooms. The tea rooms are situated next to Pinkmead Riding Stables, which means you can sit & watch the horses whilst enjoying a cuppa & slice of cake. Many of our residents have ridden & owned horses throughout their lives, so visiting the tea rooms brings back lots of lovely memories for them.
