Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Joanne Gadd

Activities Co-ordinator

Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.

Bombay Sapphire - Gin Distillery Tour

As part of our meaningful moments initiative we ask our residents if there is something special they’d like to do, or somewhere they’ve always wanted to visit. Well, Vernon told us that he’d always wanted to go to The Bombay Sapphire Distillery, so a group of us took a trip there for one of their brilliant discovery tours.

The afternoon began with a Gin & Tonic (naturally) followed by a tour of the distillery site taking in the iconic glasshouses before learning all about the distillation process. We even bought a bottle of Bombay Bramble Gin back home to enjoy with friends.

Ale Tasting

This week the members of our Men’s Club gathered for a beer tasting afternoon in the café. They sampled a selection of five different English ales, before voting for their favourites. Abbot Ale came out on top followed closely by London Pride, but all the ales went down a treat. The gents said they thoroughly enjoyed the session and are looking forward to their next get-together next week.

Hanging Basket Winter Planting

We’d like to say thank you to Barry for helping us pick a selection of beautiful primroses from our neighbours George Beckett Nurseries to go in our winter hanging baskets.
