Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Joanne Gadd

Activities Co-ordinator

Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.

Travels in our Mini Bus

This week may have been chilly but that didn’t stop us enjoying a lovely outing to In-Excess Garden Centre in Fair Oak for drinks in their beautiful café. Thank you to the café staff for their speedy & friendly service.

Community Knit and Natter

Monday mornings mean one thing here at Shawford Springs… knitting! Our Community Knit & Natter Club had their weekly get-together today & have started work on their new project - knitted roses for Valentine’s Day

The group are always keen to welcome new members, so if you fancy starting a new hobby in 2024 why not give our knitting club a go!

Clever Crafting

Trevor & Janice joined us in our activity room for some crafting this week. We have started making book themed decorations for our new library which will be opening next month. We can’t wait to see the finished display!

Celebrating the King of Rock n’ Roll

Did you know 8th January would have been Elvis Presley’s 89th Birthday?  We decided to mark the occasion with a game of Elvis Musical Bingo, which gave us an opportunity to listen to some of his greatest hits including Hound Dog, Blue Suede Shoes & Jailhouse Rock.  A big well done to Alan who was today’s winner.

Cheers to the New Year

This week we thought we’d kick start 2024 with a trip to The Flower Pots Inn in Cheriton to enjoy a pint of their award winning ale which is brewed at their on site brewery. A big thank you to all the staff for being so friendly & accommodating, we’ll definitely be returning for another visit soon.
