Challoner House Care Home in Eastleigh

Considered by many to be the home of choice in the Winchester and Southampton areas – Challoner House offers high quality nursing, residential and dementia care in an unrivalled setting located in the lovely village of Chandlers Ford, and on one of the main bus routes into out and of Southampton and beyond.

The warmth of welcome from our team of staff can be felt the minute you step foot into our lovely nursing home.  With their help and the help of the ladies and gentlemen who live with us – we really do offer a home from home. Our team provides a high level of care all the time and every time with a caring and person centred attitude. We ensure the ladies and gentlemen who live with us feel safe and comfortable – they are ‘cared about’ as well as ‘cared for’. Our nursing care philosophy is based on the use of personalised care plans. Drawn up with the individuals we support and their families our care plans will help ensure that each person we look after is treated with respect and that their independence and choice are maximised.

Our passion for our home can be seen in everything we do - in our cooking, hospitality, housekeeping and, of course, in organising activities for our residents. Activities make up the most important part of all our days and at Challoner House we ensure we provide a variety that reflects the interests and capabilities of all the ladies and gentlemen we support. We make full use of the home’s mini bus and being located so close to the M3 in minutes we can be enjoying the beautiful surrounding countryside.  We have several regular group sessions – but perhaps our most popular – certainly with the ladies, are our regular pamper sessions!

Our beautifully landscaped award-winning gardens allow our residents to enjoy a high standard of outdoor living in the summer months. One of our residents recently reached the final of a nationwide competition which involved all Barchester homes and he came back winner of the resident’s garden category!  We could not be prouder of him!

Respite Care & Short Breaks

Everyone deserves time out. Whether you care for a relative or are in need of care yourself, taking a break from your usual routine can do the world of good.  Respite care is ideal for those looking for convalescence, either following a hospital stay or an illness. Many people also arrange a trial stay as a temporary resident to see if the home is the right choice for them as their new home. At Challoner House we are committed to providing you with the care and support you need to get back on your feet.

Choosing a care home for yourself or a loved one can prove to be such a daunting and confusing time.  So please don't hesitate to contact me for any further information you feel you may need at this stage.  Alternatively – why not pop in for a cup of tea and a chat?  Sometimes talking things through makes tougher decisions a little easier.

I really do look forward to hearing from you.

Types of care

We provide person-centred nursing care services for older people in need of support.. It is important to us that our care services are delivered in a way that celebrates each person’s individuality and helps them to maintain as much independence as possible, so we tailor our services to meet the unique needs of each person. This could include personal one-to-one time with staff members when needed, regular visits from a chiropodist or just adhering to special dietary requirements. Our current rating of 9.7 on shows just how pleased residents and loved ones are with our care services.

Vicky Davison

Activities Coordinator

I was an activities coordinator at Challoner House for 4 years before taking a year out to try new things, but soon realised my heart lies with supporting older people, so I stepped back into my position in 2019.

Alongside my work with my assistant, I organise the daily activities in addition to the larger events at the home. I enjoy getting to know the residents and try to incorporate their hobbies into the activities we plan.

I particularly enjoy spending one-to-one time with residents, as it allows me to get to know them and plan future activities around their interests. I also enjoy doing group exercises, as I feel this is an integral part of keeping residents active.

Gary Cook

Care Practitioner

My name is Gary Cook and I have been working at Challoner House since April 2011. I started here as a senior carer and then got promoted to Lead Senior Carer.

When the Care Practitioner course was introduced, I was one of the first people in Barchester to complete the programme. After about 9 months, with lots of training and support from the nurses and my mentor, I passed and have been working as a care practitioner ever since.

I work alongside the nurses and assist them in their everyday duties, from administering medication to wound care.

I love working with older people and enjoy the challenges that it brings.
