What our families say

Having viewed a number of nursing homes for my Dad, this is the best. I have found all the staff to be extremely professional and friendly. My Dad has been with Challoner for over 18 months. The care he receives is second to none, couldn’t be more pleased. All the staff do a fantastic job especially during COVID and kept me informed. Keep up the good work. Thank you

This is a lovely home its a home from home . All staff are so welcoming . This really has made putting my relative in a care home and easy process. We can visit when we want . And staff are always pleasant . I really can't fault it and the constant reassurance from staff members and management is out of this world. They really go over and beyond to make sure everyone including the relatives are looked after.
You guys are amazing I can't thank you enough

Highly recommended!!! Fantastic quality of care given! I could not of asked for a better home for my family member! The staff seem generally sincere in the care given. The food on the menu is lovely and so much variety, my family member is a bit fussy so this was fabulous they are also very Accommodating. So overall good clean facilities, caring staff, the equipment all seems clean and is working order, generally caring and always have my grandads best interests first which sadly was not the case in the last home he was in. And the manager Sarah is lovely and very approachable if there is anything that needs bring up.

I visit Challoner House to deliver a seated sports programme. It is the most amazing setting, the staff are top notch and the level of care, and standard living really makes it feel as though you are at home, or in a 5 star hotel. This is where I’d like to go when I need a little more support to live well.

This is not a nursing/care home - this is in fact a HOME. The level of care provided to my family member was above and beyond my expectations! The nurses are extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of different medical conditions. The care staff did in fact CARE! The documentation was outstanding, very detailed. I was able to see exactly what care, activities, food and fluids were actioned for my family member. HR and Management were supportive in each possible way. As a whole it is difficult to be put in a situation where you do have to get extra support for your loved ones, choosing Challoner House was the best and right decision. Seeing regular staff members shows that their staff turn around is low, must be a great place to work as well. Regular home activities which also include family members and relatives is great!

"I came to Challoner House for a two week stay following a major operation to replace my left knee. My experiance was very good, I felt cared for and most of the staff were empathetic - I appreciate that shortness of staff is an issue, so it is difficult to get an immediate response (at times). I have one suggestionto make - There is no food or hot drink offered between 5.30 pm and 9 am the next day. Sometimes if you ask you can get a drink. But it is an awfully long time, and less articulate patients will not ask!"

"My brother was admitted to Challoner House Care Home after being in a different care home and hospital. The care he received here was amazing. Such a difference from the previous care home. The staff are all amazing and looked after my brother during his last few weeks before his passing. Thank you so much"

"In one word , my experience of the whole care package is "exemplary". Having been a carer of my wife for over 20 years, I am well aware of the tasks facing a carer. Challoner House carehome fully met the requirements I expected. All the staff, from the cleaners to the managers were polite, cheerful and mostly accessible. The food was excellent!"

"The care that my Mum has received over the last year has been exemplary. Without exception, each of the carers and nurses that have looked after my Mum have treated her with dignity, kindness and compassion. I know it is in the job title, but it is obvious that they really do CARE about everything that they do for her. Mum has also been given the opportunity for social interaction at the huge variety of activities that are put on for the residents and this has been a great benefit to her. My Mum's and my family's experience at Challoner House Care Home has been excellent. We have been made to feel welcome and at home at Challoner and I have no hesitation in recommending it."

"When it became clear Mum wasn't looking after herself, I spoke to Challoner on the Tuesday and when I rang on the Thursday in rather a panic, they were able to accommodate her the next day. My experience of all the people who worked at Challoner was always very good. They treated Mum with care, kindness and patience which made a potentially worrying time much easier for us to cope with."

"My mother was well looked after at Challoner House. The staff couldn't have been more kind and understanding to her. She was always treated with respect and dignity, and in this, her final month, her care was outstanding despite her considerable needs. Although the staff were extremely busy they always had time to chat to my mother, and were good friends to her and me. The home is beautifully furnished, the gardens are a constant joy, and there is always a delicious choice of food at meal times. The activities team have such a good rapport with the residents, and have a wide choice of activities. Thank you to everyone."

"A short while ago my sister was brought here both legs heavily bandaged leaking water and some blood. Very painful arthritis in her arms. Now she is bandage free in both legs and her legs are 100% better. I would say a magic wand was waved but I know it is due to the care and time spent with her that achieved her situation now. Many thanks to all the staff from her very grateful sister."

"My parents have been residents at Challoner House for five months. The care they have received has been excellent. The nursing staff and carers are true professionals; they have met my parents needs head-on. My father suffered a stroke and has dementia; he has been given excellent care with all personal needs and treated with respect. My mother has cancer, all her needs have been met with care and humour. The staff have lept their morale up during this difficult Covid time. I have visited when allowed and have been reassured of all the Covid measures in place to keep my parents safe. The staff have been very supportive during what has been a stressful time for all of us. I cannot recommend Challoner House enough - first class. Thank you."

"My husband was transferred to Challoner House from Winchester Hospital in January 2022. He had bladder cancer and needed end of life care. He was only here for one week before he died, but the excellent care he received and the kind caring manner of all the staff here have made the world of difference. Just knowing he passed away in such a nice peaceful place, surrounded by caring people has made an awful situation much more bearable to come to terms with. Both myself and his family can't thank everyone enough for the care he received and also for the kindness shown towards us."

"My mum spent fourteen months at Barchester Challoner House Care Home between August 2023 and October 2024. Unfortunately, she was 90% paralysed after two strokes and needed a high level of nursing care. All of the staff were fabulous throughout, caring and attentive. When she was well enough, they got her up into a wheelchair so she could join the other residents for activities and meals. They even managed to get her out on their bus for trips, including to the New Forest for ice cream on one occasion and on another stopping in a pub garden for a half of bitter. She particularly enjoyed the visits from entertainers and the singalongs. The home kept us informed of her medical situation and were absolutely marvellous with her when it was time to go which she eventually did peacefully in her sleep. We couldn't have asked for more."

"The home is very homely. The members of staff are all very friendly and all say hello when they see you and have a laugh and a joke with you and Dad which creates a good atmosphere. The girls all wave when they pass Dad's room and speak to him. The nurses are very helpful and answer any questions about Dad. Also, the lads that bring the drinks trolley round are very friendly and helpful."

"This very attractive care home is an absolute pleasure to visit. On arrival you're met by very happy and welcoming staff with refreshments available if required. The rooms - leisure, dining and bedrooms are all of a very high standard, and there's a full programme of entertainment and activities each week for the residents - plus sometimes the opportunity for a trip out. The gardens and grounds, kept immaculate, are an added bonus in the summer. My aunt is so happy there, and is always very complimentary about the food. So all in all an absolute gem - somewhere I'd have no hesitation to book for myself."
