Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Joanne Gadd

Activities Co-ordinator

Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.

Life at Shawford Springs Care Home

Treading the Boards - Panto Time

This week some of our staff & residents came together to perform their own take on the classic pantomime Cinderella! (Oh, yes they did!) It was a first time acting for many in the cast, but that didn’t stop them putting on a fantastic show with lots of laughter.

We’d like to thank everyone who came to watch and also a special mention to Otterbourne Theatre Company for lending us some costumes to use for the performance.

Community Musical Moments

This week we were joined by Dementia Support - Hampshire & IOW & special guest violinist Jackie Drew for their monthly community musical moments session at the home. It was a wonderful afternoon of classical music, folk songs & a selection of traditional Christmas carols to get us into the festive spirit.

Thank you to both Jackie & Kathryn from the Dementia Support Group for providing the session & we look forward to seeing you both again in 2024

Festive drinks at the Local - The Otter

This week we enjoyed a round of drinks at one of our local pubs, The Otter which is looking lovely and festive inside. Thank you to the staff at the pub for making us feel so welcome.

Otterbourne Brass Band - Community Carols

We were treated to a brilliant afternoon of music courtesy of the very talented Otterbourne Brass band this week

Four of their musicians came and performed a selection of festive songs & carols for us to sing along to including classics such as silent night, jingle bells & Rudolph the red nosed reindeer.

We all had a wonderful time and would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the musicians for giving up their afternoon to come and play for us. We very much hope to see you again next year.
