Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Joanne Gadd

Activities Co-ordinator

Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Afternoon Tea at The Winchester Rotary

We were delighted to be invited to Winchester Rotary UK’s annual afternoon tea for local senior citizens at the Itchen Abbas Village Hall. The sandwiches, cake & scones were absolutely delicious and we were also treated to entertainment courtesy of the Chesil Theatre Company along with a raffle & game of Bingo. We’d like to say a big thank you to Winchester Rotary for inviting us & to everyone who helped to organise & run the event, we all had an absolutely fantastic afternoon.

Mother's Day

We’d like to wish all our residents, families & staff who celebrate a very Happy Mother’s Day! We celebrated on Friday afternoon with a special ‘Magic of the Musicals’ themed afternoon tea with music courtesy of the wonderful Charlotte Millichamp Vocalist. We’d like to say a big thank you to Charlotte for coming to perform for us & also to our fabulous kitchen team for the delicious afternoon tea.

Cheers!

Recently, we took a trip to the Potters Heron in Ampfield for a round of drinks. Our lovely resident Gerry asked if we could visit The Potters Heron as it used to be his local, so the trip brought back lots of happy memories for him. We’d like to thank all the staff for being so welcoming and accommodating, I’m sure we’ll be back for a return visit in the future.

Taking in that fresh sea air!

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside! We often ask our residents where they’d like to go on our weekly minibus outings and two of our ladies, Rosemary & Jackie, said that they’d like to visit the seaside again. So, today we took a trip to the lovely Lee-on-Solent beach near Fareham to take in the views and refreshing sea breeze. We also popped in to the Bluebird Cafe, so Rosemary could enjoy a tub of her favourite strawberry ice-cream by the sea.

We turned Two!

We have recently celebrated turning 2 with a Big Birthday Bash!  We danced & sung the afternoon away courtesy of the fantastic China Wolf Country Duo before tucking into a delicious party buffet & birthday cake thanks to our wonderful kitchen team. We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who came along, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. We would also like to thank everyone who has supported us over the past 2 years!

World Book Day

Yesterday we celebrated World Book Day with another brilliant trip to visit Locks Heath Infant School in Southampton.

The morning started with a performance of the three Billy Goats Gruff story by the Year 1 classes and then we each visited a different class to read a book to the children.

We’d like to thank all the teachers, staff & children for welcoming us back to the school again, the outings are a special treat for us & we always leave with big smiles on our faces.
