Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

Creating Butterflies and Flowers

Llys-Y-Tywysog's resdients have had an artistic and creative week.  We are all hands on deck preparing for a very different day later in the month.  It was a great success and everybody enjoyed painting flowers along with creating butterflies, it is wonderful to see the individual ideas.  Helping towards an event increases curiosity, keeps our residents active, appreciated and part of a team.

Green Goddess Exercise Session

Residents at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home in Grovesend, Swansea were thrilled to join a lovely exercise session with the Green Goddess, the famous and glamorous fitness guru on BBC's Breakfast Time in the 1980's, presented through Shackletons Furniture Company.  Diana Moan BEM - The Green Goddess says: 'Even if we spend more time sitting than walking, we can still maintain well-being at any age if we sit with the proper support, posture, correct height and balance in our chairs'. The well-being session, along with a talk on mindfulness, and the importance of mental health, brought great memories to the residents and triggered a wave of interesting reminiscing conversations. One resident said 'It was fantastic to see the Green Goddess again and do exercise with her'.

Watching Seeds Grow

Llys-Y-Tywysog has been extremely busy over the last few weeks planting seeds. The flower seeds are ones that were received from The National Botanical Garden of Wales as part of their 'well-being study'. Gardening increases serotonin levels in the brain which can make one happier throughout the day and lift moods. Llys-Y-Tywysog cannot wait to see them grow!

Happy 90th Birthday

Llys-Y-Tywysog held a day of celebrations as one of our gentlemen reached the grand age of 90!  The day began with a hearty breakfast followed by family visits and gifts. This afternoon, we held a Birthday party and our Activity Coordinator, Lesley Faccini, played various games. Everyone had an enjoyable afternoon which was finished off with a delicious Victoria and buttercream sponge cake made by our Second Head Chef, Emma Davies. It certainly was a day of happy celebrations for all!

Pamper Morning

We treated our ladies to a morning of pampering.  Whilst their hair was setting we chatted and enjoyed magazine articles.  It was relaxing and so important for our residents to feel special.

What a Treat!

Residents struggled to decide which flavour when we visited gg's Gelatio Italian Ice cream Parlour on the Gower, what an amazing selection of delicious ice cream.  Not only did we enjoy the ice cream we also enjoyed the scenery.  We look forward to a return visit soon.
