Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

Lei Day Celebrated in Style

Llys-Y-Tywysog celebrated 'Lei Day' today in style. The dining room was dressed up and everybody enjoyed their lunch whilst having added entertainment with our activity Coordinator, Lesley who danced to Hawaiian music.  One resident said 'what a lovely lunch we have had to beautiful music'.  Events like these are so beneficial to our residents’ well-being.  After lunch there was relaxing conversation reminiscing about everything from growing up, holidays and previous jobs.

International Guide Dog Day

Today is International Guide Dog Day. One of our residents gave us a very informative talk on the life of two guide dogs, Poppy and Rosie. She has been sponsoring both dogs for the last 10 years. Everyone was shown pictures of the dogs and she was able to answer their questions. It was an interesting session that everybody enjoyed. Llys-Y-Tywysog promotes independence which helps physical and mental health, boosts confidence and self esteem.  Our residents have so much to share with us all.

Swansea University Growing Together Project

As part of Barchester's Life Enrichment programme Llys-Y-Tywysog have become volunteers for a study by the National Botanic Garden of Wales. They have teamed up with Swansea University to launch 'Growing Together'. This study is looking at how growing plants, volunteering and being part of a community impacts wellbeing. There are packets of flower seeds to plant and we will tend to them and watch them grow. Volunteering and being part of a community certainly impacts our wellbeing in a positive way, the residents are delighted to be taking part.
