Activities at Leonard Lodge Care Home

Activities at Leonard Lodge

Our activities team offer a wide range of social events, from the very popular Friday morning bingo, to gentle exercise sessions, skittles, regular animal visits and arts & crafts sessions. We are fortunate to have a team of volunteers who stop by weekly to provide additional support, allowing residents the opportunity for one-to-one sessions. These sessions could include anything, even something as simple as playing a game of Scrabble or just having a cup of tea and a chat. We believe that it is essential to support people in such a way that they are able to continue to live full and happy lives doing the things that they enjoy.

Lynn Amiri

Activities Coordinator

My name is Lynn and I lead the Activities Team here at Leonard Lodge.

Since working at Leonard Lodge I have dedicated myself to ensuring that each of our residents can continue to partake in the hobbies that they have enjoyed for years. It is important that all of the residents here have access to life enriching, fun and social activities.

The whole home supports my team and I to organise activities, events and entertainment tailored to every residents preferences, abilities and needs. Each year we have a fantastically full calendar, and we look forward to the future when we can invite the families of residents to join us in the home again.

I am married with two children and two rather annoying rescue cats. I lived in Italy for a number of years and love all Italian food, especially when somebody else cooks it for me! I love to read, especially crime novels. I am a regular theatre goer with a passion for musicals. I like to sing and dance (albeit badly!).

Mexican Independence Day

Residents enjoying an afternoon in the sunshine celebrating ‘Mexico's Independence Day’.

They sampled some Mexican beers with nachos and dips and had discussions on the history of this day, whilst enjoying some Mexican music. It was a wonderful way to use our garden on a beautiful sunny day.

Damien Bailey Photography Competition

Residents at Leonard Lodge were delighted to spend some time taking beautiful photos of our lovely garden. This was part of the Bailey-Barchester competition that was launched following a fantastic photography event hosted by the world famous Damian Bailey exclusively for Barchester homes.

We all had a wonderful time during our photo shoot and we are happy to say we were impressed with our skills in putting all the tips and ideas learnt during the talk into practice.

Two of our lovely residents discussed about how they would like a photo with our resident robin who generally visits everyday. Unfortunately Mr Robin did not want to cooperate, so the residents suggested we improvise with one of their ornamental robins! We were happy how the photos came out.

Classic Car Show

We had the pleasure of hosting the Southern East Vintage & Classic Vehicle Club for a visit with ten of their amazing cars. The Club encouraged all of our residents to look around, learn and reminisce about the origins of the cars and when they used to drive some of the models on show.

We were joined by some of our neighbours, as well as the families of residents who wanted to join in the fun. It was a great day and we look forward to hosting similar groups in the future.

International Beer Day

Residents celebrated International Beer day by sampling various beers from different countries, doing a quiz and finding out some fun facts.

Afternoon Tea

Everyday at Leonard Lodge is welcome to come to our reception cafe for a choice of teas, coffees and cakes.

Most weeks we have themed afternoon teas, and most recently, we celebrated the Tokyo Olympics by sampling some various sweet and savoury snacks from around the world.

90th Birthday Celebrations

We celebrated one of our lovely resident's 90th birthday with a Mad Hatters Tea Party.

The residents thoroughly enjoyed the tea party, with engaging conversations, poems and building friendships, as we also celebrated International Friendship Day.
