Activities at Leonard Lodge Care Home

Activities at Leonard Lodge

Our activities team offer a wide range of social events, from the very popular Friday morning bingo, to gentle exercise sessions, skittles, regular animal visits and arts & crafts sessions. We are fortunate to have a team of volunteers who stop by weekly to provide additional support, allowing residents the opportunity for one-to-one sessions. These sessions could include anything, even something as simple as playing a game of Scrabble or just having a cup of tea and a chat. We believe that it is essential to support people in such a way that they are able to continue to live full and happy lives doing the things that they enjoy.

Lynn Amiri

Activities Coordinator

My name is Lynn and I lead the Activities Team here at Leonard Lodge.

Since working at Leonard Lodge I have dedicated myself to ensuring that each of our residents can continue to partake in the hobbies that they have enjoyed for years. It is important that all of the residents here have access to life enriching, fun and social activities.

The whole home supports my team and I to organise activities, events and entertainment tailored to every residents preferences, abilities and needs. Each year we have a fantastically full calendar, and we look forward to the future when we can invite the families of residents to join us in the home again.

I am married with two children and two rather annoying rescue cats. I lived in Italy for a number of years and love all Italian food, especially when somebody else cooks it for me! I love to read, especially crime novels. I am a regular theatre goer with a passion for musicals. I like to sing and dance (albeit badly!).

Pumpkin Carving

Residents at Leonard Lodge have been taking part and judging a pumpkin carving competition. The scariest one was picked and a lovely hamper presented to the winner.

We had fun taking photos at the Halloween/autumnal display, followed by a delicious Baileys hot chocolate with cream.

The residents have been enjoying our recent Arts & Crafts sessions and said they find them very relaxing whilst enjoying the social aspect of the friendly competition.

Puppy Love

We had the best afternoon at Leonard Lodge with the amazing team from Performing Pets, who visited us with six Dachshund puppies!

The adorable little pups had everyone in the home smiling and laughing; there were lots of cuddles and kisses to go round.

No one missed out on these little beauties, as the pups visited every resident.

Animal therapy is one of the cornerstones of our activities programme, as it is accessible by all residents. Animal interaction has been proven to increase well-being and socialisation, this animal therapy session will be remembered for quite some time by residents and staff.

Virtual Cooking

Leonard Lodge residents were treated to a 'Halloween Virtual Cooking Demonstration’ by distinguished Chef, Alex Connell as part of our Halloween celebrations.

The demonstration promoted vegetarian cookery. Alex showed Barchester residents that vegetarian food isn't bland and is actually one of the most exciting areas of modern cookery.

Our very own in-house chef, Gerry, was delighted to join in and create the dishes for us to taste live during the demonstration.

We tried a butternut squash tangine, mac & cheese, fruit flavoured flapjacks, crumbly shortbread biscuits and a smooth chocolate cream pudding.

All Aboard

We had a lovely time joining Paul Hawkins and Lisa Richards from Unilever for an exciting virtual cruise experience.

Our residents were welcomed with mocktails as Lisa and Paul took them on a magical journey to 3 mystery destinations, which were uncovered after a few clues: Hamburg in Germany, Rotterdam in Holland and, finally Bruges, in Belgium.

Paul demonstrated how to create a few of the local traditional dishes, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

The event evoked lots of great memories and it was truly enjoyed by all.

The residents thanked Captain ‘Lady Tide’ and said they thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

Mexican Independence

Residents enjoyed an afternoon in the sunshine celebrating ‘Mexico Independence Day’. They sampled some Mexican beers with nachos and dips and had discussions on the history of this day.

Classic Vehicle Club

We had the pleasure of having Southern East Vintage & Classic Vehicle Club Limited come to visit us with 10 of their amazing cars. Residents, families, staff and neighbours were able to look around and reminisce and chat to the exhibitors.
