Activities at Leonard Lodge Care Home

Activities at Leonard Lodge

Our activities team offer a wide range of social events, from the very popular Friday morning bingo, to gentle exercise sessions, skittles, regular animal visits and arts & crafts sessions. We are fortunate to have a team of volunteers who stop by weekly to provide additional support, allowing residents the opportunity for one-to-one sessions. These sessions could include anything, even something as simple as playing a game of Scrabble or just having a cup of tea and a chat. We believe that it is essential to support people in such a way that they are able to continue to live full and happy lives doing the things that they enjoy.

Lynn Amiri

Activities Coordinator

My name is Lynn and I lead the Activities Team here at Leonard Lodge.

Since working at Leonard Lodge I have dedicated myself to ensuring that each of our residents can continue to partake in the hobbies that they have enjoyed for years. It is important that all of the residents here have access to life enriching, fun and social activities.

The whole home supports my team and I to organise activities, events and entertainment tailored to every residents preferences, abilities and needs. Each year we have a fantastically full calendar, and we look forward to the future when we can invite the families of residents to join us in the home again.

I am married with two children and two rather annoying rescue cats. I lived in Italy for a number of years and love all Italian food, especially when somebody else cooks it for me! I love to read, especially crime novels. I am a regular theatre goer with a passion for musicals. I like to sing and dance (albeit badly!).

Life at Leonard Lodge Care Home

,

Remembrance Sunday

Residents wanted to honour the fallen on Remembrance Sunday, even though they were unable to go out because of the current lockdown. Residents collected small plastic bottles, cut the base off and painted them red, finishing them off with a black centre.

Activities Coordinator Julie suggested we make a display outside in front of the home so that our neighbours could also see and remember. The residents were thrilled to hear the positive comments that Julie received from passersby as she was putting the poppies in place.

The residents, several of whom lost brothers during WWII, were proud to be able to show that the sacrifice of so many people over the years will never be forgotten.

Harvest Festival

Residents were thrilled with the Harvest Festival display they created in reception. Residents made salt dough animals and vegtables and also included some leaf art. There was lots of reminiscing about past Harvest Festivals and about the importance of the church for rural communities and how everybody would come together for the celebrations.

Sweet Treats

Leonard Lodge Office Manager, Sheree, sprang into action to offer residents a treat or two from the sweet trolley. The sweets were popped into old fashioned pink striped bags, harking back to the days when every street had a sweet shop.

World Record Holder!

Leonard Lodge resident, Jean, was thrilled to hear that her grandson, Andrew, had won a place in the Guiness Book of World Records. Andrew, 28, of Swindon, became the fastest person in a motorized wheelie bin after reaching speeds of 45mph and raised money for charity in the process.

Jean was told the good news by her son, Michael, and daughter-in-law, Val, during a garden visit at Leonard Lodge. Jean showed the photographs to residents and staff at the home and told everybody how proud she was of Andrew and his achievement.

Wedding Anniversary

Leonard Lodge's residents Maurice and Monica celebrated their wedding anniversary. Maurice presented Monica with a basket containing flowering plants, which will give them both many months of pleasure and a constant reminder of their enduring love.

Garden Visits

Staff have been working hard to facilitate visits by relatives in a manner that is enjoyable, but safe for residents and visitors alike. Families and friends have been thrilled to see loved ones face to face, or should that be mask to face after months of Skyping and phone calls. These visits have been emotional and joyful.
