Activities at Lancaster Grange Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Charlotte Thompson
We would like to introduce to you our Senior Activities Coordinator, Charlotte Thompson. Charlotte has worked at Barchester since 2015 and prides herself on delivering a person centred approach, valuing equality, diversity & offering tailored activities. Charlotte joined the team at Tennyson Wharf in October 2022 before moving back to us here at Lancaster Grange in January 2023.
Charlotte is pleased to be welcoming families and volunteers back into the home. Charlotte is a senior activities coordinator and enjoys supporting other homes in our region as part of her job role.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Lancaster Grange Care Home
English National Ballet
We celebrated Remembrance Day with English National Ballet Associate Dance Artist, Richard Bermange, who led a creative dance workshop for our residents followed by a special extract of Akram Khan’s work Dust, premiered in 2014 as part of ENB’s Lest We Forget programme, commemorating the First World War.
ENB company dancers, Erina Takahashi and James Streeter performed the extract and provided some insight into this moving work.
Our residents had a wonderful time as they listened, danced and were able to singalong to famous war time music performed by ENB Associate Musician, Matt Hartley-Stevens.
Cookery demonstration
We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Halloween-inspired virtual cooking demo.
Alex demonstrated how to prepare a few themed dishes, such as root vegetable tagine, roasted butternut squash mac-n-cheese, chocolate pots with piped biscuits and flapjacks.
Our residents were delighted to be a part of this lovely virtual culinary session by tasting the vegetarian dishes from the comfort of our home.
A musical performance
Our residents enjoyed a wonderful and entertaining morning, greeting Jeremy again to sing for us.
We had great fun and even a little dancing, thank you for a great morning.
We are looking forward to seeing him again for our Christmas party.
Halloween pumpkins
This morning, our residents enjoyed an enjoyable sunny ride to Maxeys Farm Shop Pumpkins in Kirklington, Nottinghamshire.
Inside the shop our residents purchased cheese and sausage rolls from the Deli Counter and especially happy to find pumpkin bread, to enjoy with their soup back at Lancaster Grange.
We loved looking at the seasonal vegetables for sale and all the delicious condiments.
We will be returning back next week to pick our pumpkins
A trip to Gannets bistro
Yesterday we took some of our residents out to visit Gannets Daycafe and Bistrot at their request for lunch.
Gannets is a Family friendly café and Bistrot in Newark
In the historic market town of Newark on Trent sits Gannets day café and bistro! Established in 1979, Gannets Day Cafe and Bistro, Castle Gate is a renowned stopping place with fabulous food and a warm welcome.
Housed in an elegant Georgian building situated opposite the ruins and grounds of the beautiful Newark Castle, Gannets is an idyllic location perfect for visitors. Looking to eat and drink in Newark.
We certainly enjoyed fantastic food and service, we were made to feel very welcome. We look forward to visiting again with more of our residents.
October's monthly coffee morning
We were lucky enough to have the beautiful October sun this morning, here at Lancaster Grange for a first coffee morning of October. Our Residents enjoyed the company of Flying Officer Cameron Lord from RAF Syerston.
Cameron came in uniform and was happy with our residents as an audience, our residents enjoyed socially interacting with Cameron and made him feel very welcome here at Lancaster Grange. We thoroughly enjoy his company each month. Thank you from all the residents here at Lancaster Grange.
