Activities at Kingsland House Care Home

Kingsland House have a variety of activities that our residents help us choose. Celebrating Life in our home is jovial and fun and from our weekly delivered activity sheet, our residents can chose exactly what they want to join in with.

Our activities range from exercise classes, gardening, arts and crafts, games to food-fun clubs. We also offer our in house church services, our own home cinema, our mobile pub - The Kingsland Tavern, visiting Pat Dogs, musical entertainers, minibus outings, theme days and birthday celebrations. For those residents being nursed in their rooms we have one to one activities sessions.

At Kingsland House we believe that activities are hugely important to stimulate and uplift, and getting to know our residents interests and lifestyle choices assist our activities team in creating events and activities to suit their expressed wishes and capabilities. We also encourage our residents' families and friends to join in with as much as they can to make Kingsland House a loving family atmosphere.

Food & Fun in August

We’ve had an awesome August at Kingsland House, full of warmth, fun and laughter.

Our regular volunteers: Freddie, Deacon Barbara & Margaret, Mary, Rev Tash, Karolyn, the Tiny Tots and Sophie, have given us their much-appreciated time and the residents love them all dearly.

We have enjoyed a music hall, jazz music, an accordionist, and live singing, in addition to trips out in our minibus for picnics and local sightseeing.

Our raised vegetable beds have given bumper crops of wonderful food that residents have presented to our chefs and were extremely proud to see them on the menu the very next day.

We know as autumn falls upon us we will be just as busy in our Garden Club preparing seeds and pots for the coming months – and we’ve already planted the pumpkins, so watch this space!

July had us feeling 'hot hot hot!'

Well, what a wonderful month! July had us as busy as bees in our courtyard sensory gardens - we were redoing our plants and flowers to take us through our Summer. The colours and smells were tremendous and residents loved maintaining the garden... as long as it's dry outside!

We had a very successful and busy Open Day with a delicious American-style BBQ on 4th July, in addition to belly dancers and singing entertainment. Residents had been making bunting for weeks beforehand and were very proud to have it displayed all around our huge private back garden - and, thankfully, the sun shone!

We were invited to a local academy and went back to school for computer work and home economics - it it was great fun having the children teach us all they know.

Our friends, The Seaside Singing Choir, visited us and we also had entertainment from guitarists, singers, nursery groups, and, of course, our twice monthly communion and worship services when we weren’t too busy with our social groups.

The surrounding community are very welcome to visit Kingsland House; we always have lots going on - and you’re invited!

June 'Bursts Out' All Over!

June 'Bursts Out' All Over!

With the sunshine allowing us more time outside in our blossom-filled grounds and courtyards, residents enjoyed afternoon tea and other quality time with their families, friends and staff.

Our fruit 'n' veg patch is bursting with amazing salads, radishes, courgettes, spring onions, cauliflower, aubergines, green beans and peppers. We have had lovely entertainment from our musicians and singers, and have enjoyed the sounds of ukuleles, sing-alongs and guitars. Our pamper salon has had many visitors by ladies and gents alike, who have all wanted to look their best on outings with loved ones.

We really have had a great month - and with four birthday parties thrown in too! We prepared bunting for our 4th July BBQ and Open Day, which the Shoreham community were invited to.

Have a look at our July activities schedule and see what other event you’d like to come along to. We’d all be very happy to see you at Kingsland House.

Kingsland House in May

The weather was so nice at the beginning of the month that we decided to make a start on our veg beds. We enjoyed our tea times in the sunshine as well!

Our arts & crafts group has been working hard to decorate our sensory garden, which will soon be adorned with bright colours and sweet smells.

We’ve had a great month, both outside and in: our little darling PAT dog, Lottie, visited us each weekend, and we enjoyed regular worship services and live musical entertainment from our friends, Mel, Freddie, John-Paul, and Lynda.

We also had a very successful and fun 'Pink Day', when we fund raised for Breast Cancer Now. We had a Moo-Cow jar full of sweets and there was a huge cake to be won, in addition to a cupcake and book stall.

Everyone had so much fun; we all enjoyed a tipple from The Kingsland Tavern and a dance to Mel, who entertained us too.

Amazing April

As the chillier weather is a little behind us, we have ventured out in our minibus again and have visited our local Coombes Farm to see the new lambs and to enjoy a tractor ride to view the wonderful South Downs.

We also got our camping chairs out at Shoreham Fort and Telscombe Cliffs, just east of Brighton - residents love it there!

We enjoyed our Easter bonnet parade along with the Easter Day Worship Service, where residents and volunteers took part in an Easter drama sketch.

The sheer variety of singing and dancing livened up April birthday celebrations and we all now look forward to May.

What we got up to in March

What we got up to in March

Kingsland House looks forward to stepping into summer with a spring in its step after having wonderful indoor activities and entertainment throughout March. We met weekly for armchair movement & singing exercises, crafts, arts, and quizzes and have enjoyed classical concerts, an afternoon at the races, our Tiny-Tots visit and even a tropical tea-party to celebrate National Nutrition Week.
