Activities at Hurstwood View Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lisa Everson

Activities Coordinator & Speak Up Champion

I’m Lisa, Activities Coordinator here at Hurstwood View.

I’ve been working at Hurstwood View in varying departments since 2017, shortly after the birth of my second child. With a strong background in Marketing, events, and community engagement - Activities is a great fit for me! I love arranging events and making a difference to our residents’ day.  I’ve never danced so much since working here, no day is ever the same, and we really do have so much fun!

Festival of Trees

On 1st December, to kick off Christmas, we went to a local Church of ours in Uckfield called the Holy Cross to help celebrate the Festival of Trees.

We paid to have a tree there, which residents helped to make the decorations for. It was so bright and colourful and smelt like Christmas. There were a hundred trees there from local businesses. We made 2 trips that day with different residents to go and see them. We also went into the Belmont Centre next door for refreshments.

Marks Cross Garden Centre

We recently went on an outing to Marks Cross Garden Centre and it was lovely – and the weather held out for us too! They had all their Christmas bits out and even had a nativity scene set up. We enjoyed a nice, two course lunch there as well and, on our way out, we brought some new fish for our tank in the café and had a lovely look around the shops.

Buxted Oast Farm

Buxted Oast Farm

We had a ladies afternoon tea at the Buxted Oast Farm house and café. Everyone enjoyed a lovely drink and a piece of cake and then had a wander around the farm shop. A few residents brought some homemade chocolate for their loved ones. It was lovely there; everyone was very welcoming.

Christmas Arts & Crafts

Christmas Arts & Crafts

Here are a couple of residents making some lovely Christmas tree decorations for a festival that we are attending. We brought a Christmas tree in Holy Cross Church in Uckfield for the Festival of Trees. Our theme was buttons, beads and bows and everyone contributed to making the decorations.

Belly Dancers

One Saturday afternoon, we had a belly dancing extravaganza! The café was full of residents who thoroughly enjoyed the show. Our guests were wearing such beautiful outfits and we all enjoyed a tea and coffee and a slice of cake afterwards. We’re looking forward to them coming again next year!
