Activities at Hurstwood View Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Activities Coordinator & Speak Up Champion

I’m Lisa, Activities Coordinator here at Hurstwood View.

I’ve been working at Hurstwood View in varying departments since 2017, shortly after the birth of my second child. With a strong background in Marketing, events, and community engagement - Activities is a great fit for me! I love arranging events and making a difference to our residents’ day.  I’ve never danced so much since working here, no day is ever the same, and we really do have so much fun!

Barchester's 25th Anniversary

Barchester's 25th Anniversary

We had a wonderful day celebrating Barchester's 25th Anniversary. In the morning, the lovely Tania Rodd came into perform for us; she was so interactive, funny and had an amazing voice – and she sung all the well-known classics. Tania got people up and dancing and waving their ribbon streamers that were made in arts and crafts sessions here.

When Tania had finished her performance, Hurstwood View's choir, The Woodlanders, decided to make an appearance for all their guests. They performed 25 songs and were absolutely amazing!

Shortly after lunch, the kitchen team brought out sausage rolls, scones and sandwiches. The chef made a wonderful big cake to help us celebrate as well, which was passed around and enjoyed by everyone.

Later on that day, we had the pleasure of welcoming The Southern Strummers into our home; they played the ukulele and all sang – it was brilliant! Everyone joined in and they even stayed for tea and cake afterwards.

Barnsgate Manor

The residents here at Hurstwood View enjoyed a very rainy trip to Barnsgate Manor for some afternoon tea and cake.

We had 2 separate tables and lots of laughs were had. The cakes were delicious!

Bernard Entertains

Bernard Entertains

Bernard Tagliavini came to visit us at Hurstwood View. He told us stories and sang songs to help raise money for the Persula Foundation. Residents were very engaged and seemed to enjoy Bernard’s company.

Jon Joins Us

Today we enjoyed the wonderful Jon McDevitt, who played his guitar and sang all the classics. We thoroughly enjoyed this and even requested to sing 'Summer Holiday' to hopefully brighten the weather slightly. The kitchen team made these wonderful chocolate and orange Swiss roll cakes filled with cream, which were enjoyed all round. The atmosphere was lovely!

,

Pub Outing

Residents enjoyed a beautiful two course meal at the Crow and Gate in Crowborough – it was a shame about the wet weather though.

The food was lovely, but some of the meals were a bit too large to finish!

Hurstwood is 5 Years Old!

In the morning, the lovely Laurie came in to perform her wonderful set to us; she got everyone singing along and joining in. Then, in the afternoon, residents were entertained by a theatre production. The kitchen team put on a beautiful spread full of sandwiches and delicious cakes for this delightful event.
