What our families say

My husband has been in Hurstwood view now for 18months. The care he receives there is exceptional in all areas. The general manager is brilliant and always makes time for us as a family. He enjoys the meals and there is always a good variety on offer. We can rest assure that he is in very safe hands. I cannot recommend Hurstwood view enough.

"Hurstwood View offers a warm and welcoming experience. The staff are always available when needed, creating a supportive and friendly atmosphere. The environment is clean and well-maintained, with plenty of engaging activities. A truly great team."

I visited my nan when Hurstwood View had an accordion player in on Memory Lane. I was in awe of how many resident were engaged in the music being played. It was special for me to share that moment with my Nan. The staff were all present and engaged in this activity too. I felt very welcome from the moment I entered the building. My Nan loves it here and we as a family are pleased she’s doing so much in her daily life. Cannot thank everyone enough

I visited this Care Home in order to see if it would be a good fit for my mother to move in to. I had visited many Care homes in the area and was left feeling disappointed by the facilities, the smells and the poor upkeep. The Hurstwood team were good enough to give me a guided tour. I was staggered by the difference. The staff were smiling and so were the residents the place feels crisp and new. Their processes and procedures were well thought out and their overall attitude to care was vastly different to other places. Unfortunately my mother passed before I could get her in there but felt that I needed to write this as good business needs to be recognized and celebrated.

Mum came to Hurstwood a few months ago for respite. I cannot praise the staff enough. They are wonderful. The home is beautiful. Mum's mental health has improved so much in such a short time. Care is outstanding. She has made friends and is enjoying the activities. provided.

Hurstwood View is an extremely caring and friendly home. Everything is of a high standard and all the staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. There are a variety of activities to keep residents occupied and entertained. Visitors are more than welcome and are encouraged to join in with whatever they want to. Overall excellent!

My Father was cared for in two Barchester Care Homes. First of all in Mortain Place in Eastbourne and then, when he needed more medical care, in Hurstwood View Care Home. I must say that he was well looked after in both care homes. The staff were kind and caring. Especially in Hurstwood view when he became difficult to manage, I saw the staff laughing with him and caring for him, despite the difficulties. It's to be noted that they were also kind to me on every visit, keeping me updated and informed. I would also like to thank the staff for their care at the very end.

My Mum has been in Hurstwood view since before Christmas. It’s been the best move ever. The care is five star as the staff are always ensuring she is happy and comfortable with all her needs being catered for.
She can be a very sociable person so loves being included in all the activities and going out on outings are very special to her.
She really enjoys her food and drink and finds the choices are excellent and varied daily and loves the social part of eating together which reminds her of being on holiday.
Since being at Hurstwood view we can see how much more content she is. She often refers to it as being her home from home which shows us we made the best choice.- Julie Howse

"All the staff were kind, attentive and professional, from the manager, nurses and care staff through to the finance/admin team. The home has a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere and lovely surroundings. Mum's room was spacious, spotless and well equipped. Mum moved to Hurstwood View following a terminal diagnosis and the nursing staff were incredible in their dedication to making her final weeks comfortable and dignified, and as a family we felt fully supported. I would recommend Hurstwood View Care Home wholeheartedly."

"A purpose built, delightful, friendly, caring home with an uplifting atmosphere and a focus on enriching activities alongside the normal daily needs of the residents. The carers are genuinely lovely, very capable & attentive. Mum especially warmed to her carers. Mum's initial 2 week respite turned into 6 weeks. It was unfortunate that she couldn't become a permanent resident, since we could not prove the 2 years funding required. Nevertheless, the lady in the office, did everything possible to advise and support us throughout the process & Mum's respite stay. Would highly recommend to any family considering a care home for their loved one."

"Hurstwood View is described by dad, 'like a 5 star hotel!'. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff, they are all so attentive and genuinely caring, patient and happy at all times. They also give respect to those residents who might just be happy to be in their own company and choose not to always join in the huge range of daily activities available. Mum was also there last year, if only for a few weeks, but at a time when her health was at it's most challenging. The care she received was outstanding, and the care they gave us as a family equally so. 5 stars from us all and many many thanks to everyone!"

"My mother has been at Hurstwood View for a little over a year and before that my father was at Hurstwood View for about two and a half years. I have therefore been visiting the home on a very regular basis for a number of years. The home is well managed and it boasts an exceptionally good staff who clearly care for the residents. This has been particularly evident in the challenging times over the last few months with COVID-19 where staff have gone beyond the normal call of duty to keep the residents settled and as content as possible whilst they have been unable to see their families. The rooms are nice, a good size and pleasantly furnished. There are spacious communal areas and a cafe downstairs. There is an excellent team who sort out the activities and friendly reception and administrative staff. I would unhesitatingly recommend Hurstwood View to anyone looking for a care home for family or friends who are unable to remain in their own homes."

"My father had spent several years in Hurstwood View where he was shown such kindness and wonderful care. He was in his 90’s and had the start of dementia that caused him to be anxious and overactive. He loved walking around the home and with the great layout and facilities it gave him such freedom which was important to him. Every member of staff showed him such love and respect, it really was like a big family. He loved his food and joining him at meal times occasionally was like being in a first-class restaurant along with the entertainment. My dad ended his final days at the home and my family and I spent day and night with him. This is when you really see how good the home is: the manager and deputy manager, both nursing trained, were so hands-on, leading by example, the nurses and carers just couldn’t be faulted. They were an amazing happy team and generally passionate about their patients well -being I honestly couldn’t wish for a better place for my dad to end his days."

"My step-mother-in-law has been a resident at Hurstwood View for over 2 years. My mother-in-law has Parkinson’s disease which has affected her balance and, after several falls and a stint in the hospital, we decided that she was safer in the environment of a care home. When looking we very much liked the size and location of Hurstwood View. We could see that every patient was receiving very personal and individual care by a dedicated staff. All my mother-in-law's needs are met to a very high standard. The staff are kind, caring and attention to every aspect of the resident’s needs with a cheerful demeanour. The rooms are bright and clean and my mother-in-law is lucky to have a room with doors opening on to a courtyard and lovely garden where she can sit. There is a weekly programme of activities and she really enjoys the exercise classes. The dining room, reception rooms and cafe are bright and spacious. The food is excellent. Above all, my mother-in-law is very happy at Hurstwood View."

"My mother has been a resident of Hurstwood View for over 4 years now. The manager is very caring and has built up an amazing team of staff who are very friendly, kind and professional and treat all the residents with respect. The meals are excellent and tasty homemade cakes and biscuits are always available. The rooms are a good size and the gardens spacious, with lovely views across the fields at the rear of the building. During the period of lockdown due to the Covid-19 crisis, the staff have continued to give excellent care to my mother and have kept in regular contact with me regarding her health and well being. The staff have remained cheerful and positive, even though they have been working under such difficult circumstances. Skype and WhatsApp have been set up to enable families to keep in touch with their loved ones. I feel that Mum is being very well cared for and is in a home that is safe and has a lovely warm, friendly and caring atmosphere."

"My parents have been residents at Hurstwood View Care Home for nearly two and a half years. My mother in Memory Lane and my father is a resident on the nursing floor. From the outset, they have both been treated with a kindness that made the transition from home and hospital a very comfortable one. My sister and I greatly appreciate how accommodating the staff are and especially how we were welcomed to make their rooms feel familiar, bringing in belongings of their own, making a homely environment for them both. My sister and I always feel listened to and I would say that my parents feel the same. Respect and dignity are paramount. The many long-standing staff build many valued relationships, showing genuine care and interest in the wellbeing of the residents. Cleanliness and personal hygiene are excellent. My dad really appreciates the good food. Hurstwood View is welcoming and the beautiful setting and garden is a great asset for residents and visitors."

"My mother has been at Hurstwood for two years having left a large house and garden where she lived alone. At all times, the staff have treated her with dignity and respect - with humour thrown in for good measure! The home is spacious and always clean. The meals are excellent. The leadership comes from a place of love and genuine care. To be honest, I thought it would have been impossible to find somewhere suitable for my mother, but we are so very grateful for the immeasurable love found in this place. Every resident's needs are different, but our experience has been very good. Like any community, the experience is better if you have like-minded people around you with whom you can do activities. This comes down to luck. Do take a look!"

"My father became a resident whilst strict rules were in place regarding Covid-19. The staff dealt with this in a professional way whilst being sympathetic to my father's needs in getting settled in. I appreciate the accessibility of speaking to the staff who always have time to speak however busy they are. I have found the general atmosphere at Hurstwood View to be a positive, friendly and welcoming home where nothing seems too much trouble."

"My mother has spent eight weeks at Hurstwood View, having been transferred from Pembury hospital after a fall and a series of absent seizures. She suffers with vascular dementia. We have been delighted with the care given to Mum which has been first class from day 1. She has been made to feel very much at home and has fitted in very well with all of the staff. Although visiting has been very limited due to the pandemic, she has been kept active and has even developed a couple of interests we didn't realise she had. Her general disposition and health has also improved and it's nice to see her smiling so much. Her birthday 'party' was made extra special when the staff brought her favourite coconut cake in and sang happy birthday to her together. Well done and thank you."

"Hurstwood View is a caring, supportive and wonderful place to be. My relative has had respite care there a few times now, and every time he has been there, we have had nothing but praise for the way he has been treated and looked after. He himself says he feels like royalty when he goes there and nothing is too much trouble - if you ask for anything, he gets it immediately. We, as a family, cannot thank them enough for their compassion. He’s even looking at going again before Christmas. That says it all really."

"My mother and her partner moved into the flats which are connected to Hurstwood, they were happy to have the back up of the care home and also have care in their own home. This worked really well and they quickly got to know the staff and felt very happy with their decision to move to Hurstwood. Unfortunately, my mother's partner had a bad fall. The hospital would not let him be discharged back to the flat as he needed more care so he went into the nursing home. He was cared for very well by the staff. They were really good with him as his dementia had accelerated. The good thing was that Mother could visit him. He was treated with respect and dignity until the end. Unfortunately, my mother was diagnosed with cancer. She carried on living in the flat with the knowledge that if she needed anyone they were on hand. She really loved all the staff and built up a friendship with them. She said she couldn’t have wanted to be in a better place. Her last days were spent in the home and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend."

"Hurstwood View came to our rescue when our father was in the final stages of dementia and we could no longer keep him at home with carers. They took him at very short notice and throughout the very short time, he was at Hurstwood View the care was exemplary. One of the staff was with him twenty-four hours a day, we had regular and frequent updates. The staff were gentle and caring in the way they handled him in his final days and treated him as though they had known him all his life. The staff also treated us with great understanding and sympathy and were prepared to go to any lengths in order to make our situation as easy as was possible during Covid. We could not fault their care and they made a world of difference to us at a very difficult time in our lives. We felt very lucky to have been able to send our father into their care for his final days."

"My dad stayed for respite care following a few falls. The care dad received was amazing, we have had nothing but praise for the way he was treated and looked after. The home is modern, beautifully clean and kept in tip-top condition. The food options are great, dad raved about his meals during his stay! Dad says nothing was too much trouble - all the staff were truly amazing! As the weather wasn’t suitable for dad to enjoy the beautiful grounds outside and he didn’t want to join in activities indoors, the staff grouped him with a few other men so they could have chats which dad thoroughly enjoyed. The atmosphere in this home is very friendly, supportive and caring."

"My elderly mother urgently needed a nursing home. I had visited several, but none was absolutely right. Hurstwood View was recommended. I had finally found the perfect home for her! The manager is delightful, involved, and from a nursing background. The cheerful atmosphere and close relationship between staff and management is immediately apparent. I understand staff turnover is low, a positive. The staff are happy, kind, respectful, and seek to converse with residents as individuals with a unique history. The nursing staff informs me of any issue. Measures are in place up to help my mother with her particular circumstances. Nothing ever seems too much trouble. The purpose-built building boasts lovely ensuite bedrooms, all with patio doors opening onto a courtyard or garden. The chef’s meals look nourishing and delicious. The lively activities team provides a busy programme. As a new visiting relative, I felt immediately embraced by the Hurstwood View community, and have nothing but praise for it."

"Everything about our experience with Hurstwood View has been extremely positive, right from our first informal visit to see if it was the right place for Mum. My mother has Alzheimer's but can function fairly independently and loves to socialise. The whole approach to my Mum is to treat her as an individual. She has settled in so quickly. All the staff are very friendly, as well as very professional. The home feels and appears much more like a hotel than anything else. Mum's room is lovely with a superb view. Mum is joining in with a lot of the activities and eating well. The latter is a relief as her appetite had dwindled so much prior to coming to Hurstwood View and she had lost weight. Every time I speak to her or visit her she is so excited to tell me what she has been up to, how nice it is there and how happy she is. This has also been a difficult time for us as a family as it's been a huge decision to make and the staff have all made this so easy and stress-free for us."

The staff are extremely caring and friendly and he is fond of them and grateful for all they do for him. I receive regular updates about his medication and any adjustments and reasons for them by the Clinical Leader. Very much appreciated and keeps me in the picture without having to ask. "My mother transferred from another care home in September 2021, and the move has been transformational for her. She was very low when we moved here, and the professional, kind and friendly team at Hurstwood View have worked hard to bring some sunshine back into mum's life. I truly believe that she now has some quality of life, and for me, that is everything. The management team at Hurstwood View is exceptional, and they make every effort to ensure that all of their service users enjoy their last days, even in these difficult times of CV-19. "My husband (separated) was in Hurstwood View for one week's respite in June. He was well looked after, and he enjoyed his time. Last year he had been discharged from the hospital to Hurstwood, so the staff knew him, and he was familiar with everything. "Just everything about Hurstwood worked for my father and family. He moved into Hurstwood Court, the independent living wing, some years ago. The staff in Hurstwood View were wonderful with him. Checking that he was safe. Providing him with increasing levels of support as, and when, he needed it. The option to be involved in as much, or as little, of care home life as he wanted provided him with activities, a social network and always ensured a hot meal was available if he didn't feel like shopping and cooking. After several years in his apartment, he eventually moved into Hurstwood View when it was clear that it was no longer safe for him to live independently. The wonderful staff there continued to look after him for a number of years until he eventually succumbed to his illness and passed. The care, compassion and dignity that all the staff show to all their residents, and their families, is truly wonderful. We are all so grateful to the manager and her team."

"After looking at many care homes, this was the only one that offered respite that I could book in advance. I needed to find a care home for my mother whilst I was away on honeymoon. My honeymoon had been booked way in advance of my mother needing to live with us and I needed to know mum was safe and well looked after. Barchester Hurstwood View is amazing. The home is beautiful and made very special by the staff who look after these vulnerable people. Mum was very happy and made good friends with the staff whilst she was there. I haven't told mum yet but I'm hoping to book her in again next year when we go away for our holiday. The home is very convenient for our relatives to visit. My mum prefers a quiet life and was very happy she was allowed to stay in her room for her stay."
