What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"Very friendly, capable and helpful staff 24/7. Excellent lounges and quiet room and cafe to meet guests."

"Hurstwood View has been excellent in every respect. As POA and next of kin for Auntie our location some 300 miles away proved very challenging. We had remotely supported her for many years aided by intense home care support but her increasing confusion and distress demanded she move to receive continuous support. This she had persistently resisted but Hurstwood's reception and ongoing care proved very special. Her personal bedroom, the quality of food and the opportunity to make new acquaintances was great but above all was the kindness shown by all of the staff in making her at ease in this new environment. Of equal value was the staff's engagement with us. Being unable to visit we were rigorously kept informed on both the positive aspects of Auntie's residence but also sensitively guided through the challenges of her decline through dementia and ultimate end-of-life care. We initially gasped at the fee but can honestly say that it proved worth every penny."

"Dad was a resident of the home for only a few months having moved from a Barchester care home when his nursing needs increased. All the staff at Hurstwood View, from the manager to nursing staff, care staff, activities, admin, and back of the house, treated him with compassion, understanding, and respect. Dad had his difficulties but I always felt that the staff acted in his best interests. They kept us informed and updated on any changes. When it came to the end they couldn't have done more for Dad or indeed for my sister and me, meaning we can look back on that dreadful time knowing it couldn't possibly have been handled any better. If you are looking for a fantastic care/nursing home for your loved one then look no further. The staff here actually care!"

"Five-star care, five-star staff, five-star facilities. From the moment we walked into Hurstwood View we knew we’d found a gem. From the friendly activities team who encourage the residents to join in an array of daily activities, to the attentive and empathetic care team I cannot recommend this wonderful home enough. The meals are delicious and the catering staff take time to find out what the residents particularly fancy. Distraught and overwhelmed because of the situation we found ourselves in, The Manager and staff wrapped me in a virtual blanket of kindness and understanding. The team at Hurstwood View scooped my mum up in an equal blanket of care and expertise, transforming her physical issues whilst also having a deep understanding of dementia patients. I feel I have my mum back and I can sleep at night now knowing she is safe and cared for."

"Quite frankly a horrendous experience both for my deceased mother and my family. Beautiful decor but hardly any care staff. Mum went in for 4 weeks respite (£8000 non-refundable) but died after 2 weeks. Delays on urine test on arrival, obtaining pain relief medication to help my mum (they blamed a change in doctor but they had a week's notice to get it), dirty drinking vessels left in room from the previous day, off milk given to my mum (was on her bedside table and folder said she had been given milk before I arrived), bank nurse said it was unclear from notes what medication my mum should be taking and found my mum distressed every time I visited her during her last week. Yes I did complain at the time and the care did buck up a little but really it should never have come to that. Think as a gesture of goodwill we should have had a refund which we could have donated to our mum’s chosen charity particularly as mum was only hoisted out of bed once and had only a few mouthfuls of food."

"My husband spent two weeks at Hurstwood View in respite care. He was well looked after and enjoyed himself. Everything was done to make his stay a pleasant and happy one. The food was excellent, and all the staff were very kind and attentive. A happy care home with a nice atmosphere. It’s so reassuring to know your loved one is safe and well looked after."

"My husband moved here nearly 3 months ago after I could no longer look after him at home. The staff were unbelievably supportive of me with what was a very difficult decision and he has settled well. Hurstwood View is a happy place with a lovely atmosphere and is very welcoming. Kindness and patience are much in evidence on the dementia floor and it is heartwarming to see the wonderful care which they give to my husband and other residents even when things can be quite challenging. The staff are hard-working and excellent in every way, nothing is too much trouble and thankfully the whole place is run with a lot of common sense and does not feel 'corporate'. The activities team are enthusiastic and engages well with all the residents and their families and my husband clearly enjoys the home-cooked food! Laundry and cleaning are of a high standard. I cannot believe that there is a better place for my husband than here. Huge thanks to you all."

"My grandmother moved to Hurstwood View about 18 months ago when it became clear she needed specialist dementia care. The team are second to none - nothing was ever too much and even on her bad days they clearly cared for her very deeply. At the end of her life, they were kind to us all, cared for her like she was their own grandmother and made sure she was not in pain. My father and I couldn’t have asked for more and we are so glad she was surrounded by people who truly cared for her."

"My mother has been at Hurstwood View for two months in respite care following a difficult hospital and community hospital stay after a fall. Mum has just blossomed since she arrived at Hurstwood. All the staff have provided such great care for Mum, she has regained her weight loss and her personality has returned. She is thriving. Her room is beautiful, with a wonderful outlook over fields, it is warm, homely and comfortable, more like a cosy hotel room. The meals are excellent with good choices, with extra treats throughout the day, homemade biscuits and cakes with plenty of tea and coffee visits. The manager and all the staff are genuinely caring and interested in each resident. The planned weekly activities provide a really well-balanced range of group and individual activities for all to enjoy. I visit every day and I feel incredibly welcome and part of the family! It’s a very special place."

"My mother moved to Hurstwood View in September 2022 after her Alzheimer's had progressed so much that she was unable to continue in her own home. We were concerned that the transition to a residential home would be very upsetting and difficult for her. In fact, with the support and care of the wonderful staff at Hurstwood View, Mum settled quickly and is very happy in her new surroundings. She is well looked after, is enjoying the activities on offer, and is calmer and less anxious than she was in her own home. We can visit whenever we like, as can her other friends, which is wonderful. The staff are great at keeping in touch, so we feel very much a part of Mum's care. We cannot thank the team at Hurstwood View enough. Special thanks to two members of staff."

"My mother, who has dementia, has been staying at Hurstwood for over four years. She has a spacious, comfortable, on-suite room overlooking countryside. The home is decorated to a high standard and residents use various lounges and a cafe where a range of activities are provided. The garden areas are well-maintained and there are pleasant, outdoor seating areas. I am always made to feel welcome when I visit my mother and all the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Their kindness and awareness of my mother's needs is greatly appreciated."

"My father has been a resident since June 2017 on Memory Lane. Nothing is ever to much trouble. The care for my father has been superb and even with The Pandemic the staff have gone beyond the call of duty adapting to new working regimes ensuring the residents were well. Ever since 2017 I have nothing but praise for Hurstwood View and would recommend it to anyone. Brilliant staff working together as a team. I feel Hurstwood View is part of my extended family. Thank you to all the staff for all your continuing hard work."

"Room comfortable and spacious. Staff extremely attentive and looked after me very well. Choice of food with menu requests taken daily. Would do something different if required. As I stayed in my room during my visit staff came in for a chat when they had a spare moment. That was greatly appreciated."

"My husband (separated) was in Hurstwood View for one week's respite in June. He was well looked after, and he enjoyed his time. Last year he had been discharged from the hospital to Hurstwood, so the staff knew him, and he was familiar with everything. My partner and I, who look after him in our home, normally were able to enjoy our week's respite too, knowing he was safe and among friends again."

"My father has been a resident here since September 2021. As a family, we are so pleased with the care he has been/is receiving. The staff are, without exception, so kind, caring and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble for them. My father is settled and content and we are happy knowing that he is receiving the best care possible. Thank you to all concerned."

"My mother transferred from another care home in September 2021, and the move has been transformational for her. She was very low when we moved here, and the professional, kind and friendly team at Hurstwood View have worked hard to bring some sunshine back into mum's life. I truly believe that she now has some quality of life, and for me, that is everything. The management team at Hurstwood View is exceptional, and they make every effort to ensure that all of their service users enjoy their last days, even in these difficult times of CV-19. I cannot thank the team enough for all their hard work and kindness. They definitely go the extra mile!"

"My experience and that of my husband, a resident since February 2021 has been very positive. I feel that he is receiving the best possible care at Hurstwood View. The staff are extremely caring and friendly and he is fond of them and grateful for all they do for him. I receive regular updates about his medication and any adjustments and reasons for them by the Clinical Leader. Very much appreciated and keeps me in the picture without having to ask. Generally, the care is exceptional and I am glad that my husband has found the perfect residential Home for his particular needs."

"Everything about our experience with Hurstwood View has been extremely positive, right from our first informal visit to see if it was the right place for Mum. My mother has Alzheimer's but can function fairly independently and loves to socialise. The whole approach to my Mum is to treat her as an individual. She has settled in so quickly. All the staff are very friendly, as well as very professional. The home feels and appears much more like a hotel than anything else. Mum's room is lovely with a superb view. Mum is joining in with a lot of the activities and eating well. The latter is a relief as her appetite had dwindled so much prior to coming to Hurstwood View and she had lost weight. Every time I speak to her or visit her she is so excited to tell me what she has been up to, how nice it is there and how happy she is. This has also been a difficult time for us as a family as it's been a huge decision to make and the staff have all made this so easy and stress-free for us."

"The home is extremely well run. The dignity and care of the service user is paramount. The staff are all very friendly, professional and helpful. The rooms are large and spacious, full of light and feel airy. The dining facilities looks very smart and the food is excellent. There is always a choice and from what I hear it is all very tasty. The nursing care is second to none and there is great empathy and caring towards the service user. Every effort is made to stimulate the service user with activities. Each week clear schedule of activities is published and there is lots of encouragement to try things. We have seen a marvellous improvement in the service user we visit and look out for. He is much more alert and interested in what we tell him and makes good suggestions on various topics. Physically he is now more mobile and although quite slow he is 100% improved on when he first went in. It feels like home and thankfully he is very content and safe in their care."

"My elderly mother urgently needed a nursing home. I had visited several, but none was absolutely right. Hurstwood View was recommended. I had finally found the perfect home for her! The manager is delightful, involved, and from a nursing background. The cheerful atmosphere and close relationship between staff and management is immediately apparent. I understand staff turnover is low, a positive. The staff are happy, kind, respectful, and seek to converse with residents as individuals with a unique history. The nursing staff informs me of any issue. Measures are in place up to help my mother with her particular circumstances. Nothing ever seems too much trouble. The purpose-built building boasts lovely ensuite bedrooms, all with patio doors opening onto a courtyard or garden. The chef’s meals look nourishing and delicious. The lively activities team provides a busy programme. As a new visiting relative, I felt immediately embraced by the Hurstwood View community, and have nothing but praise for it."

"The friendly staff are truly amazing. I had no idea Nursing Homes could provide this level of care. After the initial disruption of being moved from another Home, from which he was expelled, my husband has settled in and is really contented and happy. Being a gourmet, he loves the choices on the menu every day, and thoroughly enjoys his meals and snacks every day, from breakfast to supper. The staff go out of their way to accommodate his various needs and wishes during the day, such as letting him help and feel useful. I have already recommended Hurstwood View to many friends who have asked for my opinion."

"My dad stayed for respite care following a few falls. The care dad received was amazing, we have had nothing but praise for the way he was treated and looked after. The home is modern, beautifully clean and kept in tip-top condition. The food options are great, dad raved about his meals during his stay! Dad says nothing was too much trouble - all the staff were truly amazing! As the weather wasn’t suitable for dad to enjoy the beautiful grounds outside and he didn’t want to join in activities indoors, the staff grouped him with a few other men so they could have chats which dad thoroughly enjoyed. The atmosphere in this home is very friendly, supportive and caring."

"Hurstwood View came to our rescue when our father was in the final stages of dementia and we could no longer keep him at home with carers. They took him at very short notice and throughout the very short time, he was at Hurstwood View the care was exemplary. One of the staff was with him twenty-four hours a day, we had regular and frequent updates. The staff were gentle and caring in the way they handled him in his final days and treated him as though they had known him all his life. The staff also treated us with great understanding and sympathy and were prepared to go to any lengths in order to make our situation as easy as was possible during Covid. We could not fault their care and they made a world of difference to us at a very difficult time in our lives. We felt very lucky to have been able to send our father into their care for his final days."

"My father became a resident whilst strict rules were in place regarding Covid-19. The staff dealt with this in a professional way whilst being sympathetic to my father's needs in getting settled in. I appreciate the accessibility of speaking to the staff who always have time to speak however busy they are. I have found the general atmosphere at Hurstwood View to be a positive, friendly and welcoming home where nothing seems too much trouble."

"My mother and her partner moved into the flats which are connected to Hurstwood, they were happy to have the back up of the care home and also have care in their own home. This worked really well and they quickly got to know the staff and felt very happy with their decision to move to Hurstwood. Unfortunately, my mother's partner had a bad fall. The hospital would not let him be discharged back to the flat as he needed more care so he went into the nursing home. He was cared for very well by the staff. They were really good with him as his dementia had accelerated. The good thing was that Mother could visit him. He was treated with respect and dignity until the end. Unfortunately, my mother was diagnosed with cancer. She carried on living in the flat with the knowledge that if she needed anyone they were on hand. She really loved all the staff and built up a friendship with them. She said she couldn’t have wanted to be in a better place. Her last days were spent in the home and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend."

"Hurstwood View is a caring, supportive and wonderful place to be. My relative has had respite care there a few times now, and every time he has been there, we have had nothing but praise for the way he has been treated and looked after. He himself says he feels like royalty when he goes there and nothing is too much trouble - if you ask for anything, he gets it immediately. We, as a family, cannot thank them enough for their compassion. He’s even looking at going again before Christmas. That says it all really."

"My mother has spent eight weeks at Hurstwood View, having been transferred from Pembury hospital after a fall and a series of absent seizures. She suffers with vascular dementia. We have been delighted with the care given to Mum which has been first class from day 1. She has been made to feel very much at home and has fitted in very well with all of the staff. Although visiting has been very limited due to the pandemic, she has been kept active and has even developed a couple of interests we didn't realise she had. Her general disposition and health has also improved and it's nice to see her smiling so much. Her birthday 'party' was made extra special when the staff brought her favourite coconut cake in and sang happy birthday to her together. Well done and thank you."

"My parents have been residents at Hurstwood View Care Home for nearly two and a half years. My mother in Memory Lane and my father is a resident on the nursing floor. From the outset, they have both been treated with a kindness that made the transition from home and hospital a very comfortable one. My sister and I greatly appreciate how accommodating the staff are and especially how we were welcomed to make their rooms feel familiar, bringing in belongings of their own, making a homely environment for them both. My sister and I always feel listened to and I would say that my parents feel the same. Respect and dignity are paramount. The many long-standing staff build many valued relationships, showing genuine care and interest in the wellbeing of the residents. Cleanliness and personal hygiene are excellent. My dad really appreciates the good food. Hurstwood View is welcoming and the beautiful setting and garden is a great asset for residents and visitors."

"My mother has been at Hurstwood for two years having left a large house and garden where she lived alone. At all times, the staff have treated her with dignity and respect - with humour thrown in for good measure! The home is spacious and always clean. The meals are excellent. The leadership comes from a place of love and genuine care. To be honest, I thought it would have been impossible to find somewhere suitable for my mother, but we are so very grateful for the immeasurable love found in this place. Every resident's needs are different, but our experience has been very good. Like any community, the experience is better if you have like-minded people around you with whom you can do activities. This comes down to luck. Do take a look!"

The manager is very caring and has built up an amazing team of staff who are very friendly, kind and professional and treat all the residents with respect. The meals are excellent and tasty homemade cakes and biscuits are always available. The rooms are a good size and the gardens spacious, with lovely views across the fields at the rear of the building. During the period of lockdown due to the Covid-19 crisis, the staff have continued to give excellent care to my mother and have kept in regular contact with me regarding her health and well being. The staff have remained cheerful and positive, even though they have been working under such difficult circumstances. Skype and WhatsApp have been set up to enable families to keep in touch with their loved ones. I feel that Mum is being very well cared for and is in a home that is safe and has a lovely warm, friendly and caring atmosphere."

"My step-mother-in-law has been a resident at Hurstwood View for over 2 years. My mother-in-law has Parkinson’s disease which has affected her balance and, after several falls and a stint in the hospital, we decided that she was safer in the environment of a care home. When looking we very much liked the size and location of Hurstwood View. We could see that every patient was receiving very personal and individual care by a dedicated staff. All my mother-in-law's needs are met to a very high standard. The staff are kind, caring and attention to every aspect of the resident’s needs with a cheerful demeanour. The rooms are bright and clean and my mother-in-law is lucky to have a room with doors opening on to a courtyard and lovely garden where she can sit. There is a weekly programme of activities and she really enjoys the exercise classes. The dining room, reception rooms and cafe are bright and spacious. The food is excellent. Above all, my mother-in-law is very happy at Hurstwood View."

"My father had spent several years in Hurstwood View where he was shown such kindness and wonderful care. He was in his 90’s and had the start of dementia that caused him to be anxious and overactive. He loved walking around the home and with the great layout and facilities it gave him such freedom which was important to him. Every member of staff showed him such love and respect, it really was like a big family. He loved his food and joining him at meal times occasionally was like being in a first-class restaurant along with the entertainment. My dad ended his final days at the home and my family and I spent day and night with him. This is when you really see how good the home is: the manager and deputy manager, both nursing trained, were so hands-on, leading by example, the nurses and carers just couldn’t be faulted. They were an amazing happy team and generally passionate about their patients well -being I honestly couldn’t wish for a better place for my dad to end his days."

"My mother has been at Hurstwood View for a little over a year and before that my father was at Hurstwood View for about two and a half years. I have therefore been visiting the home on a very regular basis for a number of years. The home is well managed and it boasts an exceptionally good staff who clearly care for the residents. This has been particularly evident in the challenging times over the last few months with COVID-19 where staff have gone beyond the normal call of duty to keep the residents settled and as content as possible whilst they have been unable to see their families. The rooms are nice, a good size and pleasantly furnished. There are spacious communal areas and a cafe downstairs. There is an excellent team who sort out the activities and friendly reception and administrative staff. I would unhesitatingly recommend Hurstwood View to anyone looking for a care home for family or friends who are unable to remain in their own homes."

"My father owns one of the apartments at Hurstwood Court and was for a long time going into the care home for his meals and to join in with the various outings and activities put on by the home. Both of these he enjoyed very much as they gave him variety and social interaction, not having any friends in the area. In May he had a couple of falls and was moved downstairs into the care home to be looked after. The room he was offered was so lovely, bright and homely, the staff so attentive and helpful that he is now going to remain in the care home. This has been such a weight off of our minds, as out of four siblings only one of us who lives locally. Because my Dad was going downstairs for his meals he knows and recognises all of the members of staff and other residents. With Covid, I have not been able to visit my Dad, but members of staff have been calling me regularly to keep me up to date with how my dad is doing and I am confident he is very happy."

"During this unprecedented time of Covid-19, the staff at Hurstwood View have gone beyond their duty as carers and adapted to take on the emotional role of supporting residents without family visits. At the start of the lockdown period, I had no idea how my father would cope without my almost daily visits. Unable to do anything for himself, he is entirely reliant on support from others. It has been a giant leap of faith to trust that he would be cared for, physically, emotionally and mentally. I can honestly say that the care and support that my father has received has been exceptional. The staff at Hurstwood View can be proud of themselves. They have come through the most difficult of times, caring for the lives of others in an exemplary way. Setting up communication via Skype has been brilliant. Even facilitating virtual physiotherapy sessions! We are a lucky family to have the caring support of all the dedicated staff at Hurstwood View."

"The nursing/care staff at Hurstwood View are very professional, but they are also extremely caring and treat the residents with great respect. The rooms are spacious, and the en-suite is a good size. The food is always excellent, and the hospitality and reception staff are very accommodating and helpful. The manager is excellent and truly cares about all of the residents. Hurstwood View has been particularly good at looking after everyone during this coronavirus crisis and have kept friends and family very well informed whilst we are not able to visit."

"Mum has a care assisted flat and at the moment has moved to the nursing wing due to a fall and injury. We have therefore seen the wide range of care that has been available. The knowledge, care, experience and approach to patient care/dignity is excellent. The facilities and food are very good. The only minor point would be the lack of on-site physio. The admin is very efficient."

"My wife has been a resident since October 2019. The facilities are purpose-built to a very high standard and are well maintained. The staff work hard to build a friendly and relaxed atmosphere with good-humoured camaraderie at all times. The residents are always treated with respect. The quality of food is excellent, always freshly prepared, and special requests will be accommodated whenever possible. The soups and afternoon cakes are especially appreciated! There is a good range of daily activities to keep the residents stimulated and to provide important social contact for those with a physical disability. Ultimately for me, the key question is, "are you comfortable and happy to leave your loved one in their care?" In this case, certainly; Yes."

"My father-in-law spent the last 4 days of his life at Hurstwood. He received exceptional care from all staff. He consistently told us how wonderful the staff were and how well he was being cared for. The care home is beautiful with lovely clean rooms, gardens, and facilities. It’s incredibly peaceful and the staff are so kind, friendly, helpful and supportive. Our family can’t extend our thanks enough to the managers who went above and beyond to make sure he was as comfortable as possible and they were so kind and supportive to our family. They sorted all the formalities for us so we didn’t have to worry about anything. They even came to the funeral which meant so much to us. I cannot recommend this care home enough - My father-in-law's last few days were happy, comfortable, and he passed away peacefully in his sleep. Thank you Hurstwood so much from all of us for everything you did for him and the family, we will forever be eternally grateful."

"My mother stayed at Hurstwood View for the last 4 months of her life and I am pleased to be able to write a very favourable review. My mother suffered from both Alzheimer’s and ill health and needed a lot of care. The staff couldn’t have been kinder or more compassionate, I was extremely impressed with the care given to my mother - she was treasured and looked after at a time when she needed it most. As well as caring for her physical needs, the staff took special care to get to know my Mum and made sure to spend time chatting and laughing with her, ensuring that her dignity remained intact at the most difficult time of her life. The staff were quick to act when required - if medical care was needed or a hospital visit, and kept me informed at all times as to what was going on. My mother died at Hurstwood - and I couldn’t have asked for more support, kindness and care for either my mother or myself when the time came. Highly recommended indeed!"

"I am only able to visit for a few days every month or so but have seen my father improve overall in wellbeing due to the respectful care and attention he receives. The whole atmosphere in the home is calm, clean and bright with tasteful and up to date furnishings. The rooms allow direct access outside giving a feeling of openness. Various lounges allow quiet space and family privacy if desired. Food is excellent and looks and smells very tempting utilising local produce when in season. The home has a calm and relaxing feeling and is pleasant for residents and visitors. An amazing daily entertainment schedule is available for those who wish, and celebrations and events are always marked and enjoyed. "My husband has been at Hurstwood View from 23/6/2019, and myself and family have nothing but praise for the place. Where to start? On entry, the atmosphere is welcoming, calm, (vibrant at the right time of day), a pleasure to be in. The staff.... dedicated, vibrant, considerate, caring, super! I travel from the Lake District and I know that between my visits that he is in the best place for care. The manager, nurses, all carers, cooks, cleaners, maintenance deserve full marks for their dedication."

"The building is wonderful but it's the staff that make it such a good care home. Everyone is positive, happy and well trained and I mean everyone. Such a relief to have a family member stay here at Hurstwood View. Highly recommend and the food is also brilliant."

"I visited a friend who is a resident here. I was met by the area training manager who showed me to the lounge, dining area until we located my friend. My observations were that the staff were friendly and kind, plenty on hand and security very good. My only other observation was that my friend's coat was not clean."

"Hurstwood View is a modern, clean, comfortable care home set in pleasant surroundings. Rooms are spacious with en-suite facilities and there are various lounges and seating areas including a large cafe and garden. All the staff are approachable and caring and they work hard to provide a safe and happy environment for the residents. A range of activities are provided each day and there are regular outings and special events. There is good communication with relatives who are always made to feel welcome."

"A home which I am only a temporary resident due to a nervous breakdown. I am enjoying a very happy time here (for 2months) with wonderful staff for whom nothing is too much trouble and have, after a few weeks here staged a great recovery. It has been an amazing experience. (Aged 90)"

The residents are all treated with respect and dignity. The families are always welcome and my personal experience as a family member is of a very warm welcome and it's always a pleasure to visit the care home. Communication of all the staff is excellent. "My mother has been fortunate to have respite care here. The atmosphere is extremely friendly and it is clear that it is run with smooth efficiency reflecting the excellent teamwork. My mother was not in good form when she came, and the staff were wonderfully kind and understanding, encouraging her recovery and confidence. She has also enjoyed the excellent level of attention taken with the facilities and food offered. Her room is pretty and light with a lovely view. The sensitivity shown not only to my mother but also to the family during these weeks has been exemplary."

"We have been delighted with the care and service of Hurstwood View care home for my Mother-in-law. The staff is fantastic and goes well beyond the call of duty when it comes to looking after the residents. My Mother-in-law has settled in very well and seems very happy and content. "An extremely caring home. Staff are very able and very caring. From the manager through to all staff on all levels there is a superb caring attitude both to residents and to their families. Everyone is always cheerful. Each resident is known by name by every member of staff and treated with care and respect. The food is very good and individual tastes are catered for. Overall an excellent home for residents and importantly peace of mind for family, knowing their loved one is so well cared for."

"Light, airy and cheery is the immediate impression on entry to Hurstwood View. The design and layout seems more akin to a cruise ship with rooms broken up with lounges and café style living areas. It is all new for me and my family, but the level of service most worth caring is about is that the staff and service "know my mum" and meet her needs."

"I have looked at many care homes in the area and my father has been in a couple for respite. Hurstwood View is by far the best we have used and viewed. It is clean, friendly and the food is very good. Everyone knows all the residents by name, the staff are always happy and nothing seems too much trouble. Nursing care is good and the care for the relatives seems to be just as important which can be so critical when moving a loved family member into a care home."

"It is hard to fault Hurstwood View who have offered a consistently high standard of care to my mother for the duration of her time there. They managed her final days with dignity and respect and looked after us all as a family during a difficult time. The nursing and health care assistants without exception were wonderful and feel like members of our extended family while retaining their professional boundaries. The touches we most appreciated were little things like offering a glass of sherry before lunch, beautiful homemade cakes, wide ranging activities and a truly homely atmosphere."

"My husband moved to Hurstwood View in January 2017. Every effort was made to settle him and he is very happy there. All the staff have been very kind and helpful, the care he receives could not be better. The family visit very regularly and are always welcomed. One criticism - very sorry the memory boxes have been removed from bedroom doors, but this is minor in light of the care that is given."

"We were anxious when we left my mother-in-law for respite care in the home as she was quite reluctant to stay. The Manager and her team quickly made my mother-in-law their priority, attending to her needs and at the same time, they reassured myself and my husband that she is in safe hands. The staff are always smiling and can not do enough to help. The home is in a beautiful location and each room has a lovely view of the surrounding fields. The home is clean and it really does feel like a home from home. We were very impressed how the Home Manager assessed my mother-in-law's needs and the support she would need when she returned home. After visiting my mother-in-law, we were so happy to see her smiling and engaging with the other residents. Her hair had been washed and set. Without any hesitation, if my mother-in-law needs a home in the future we will use Hurstwood. They have respected my mother-in-law's dignity at all times. Thank you to the Home Manager and Barchester they are a credit to the industry."

"My mother has been a resident on Memory Lane for 2 years and after initially researching a number of homes, we have been extremely pleased with Hurstwood View which came highly recommended by a very close friend. The standard of care is extremely good and the staff are very caring and soon got to know my mother's likes and dislikes which is evident with their interaction with her. She is treated with utmost dignity and respect. The food is excellent and the facilities are very good, bright and airy. The café area downstairs is a great place to sit and have coffee and cake and chat with residents, staff and other relatives. The gardens are now well kept and very pleasant. Except for the odd occasion when they are overstretched, management and staff will make themselves available to discuss my mother's care and any concerns or issues. Mum has been extremely well looked after and I firmly believe she wouldn't have still been with us were it not for the care and attention she receives."

"My mother was a resident of Memory Lane for the last two years of her life. The facilities are excellent - the rooms are large and bright and for the most part kept clean and tidy. The regular staff were wonderful and work well, although they often seemed to be too busy to spend enough time with the residents, but when they did interact with my mother they did so in a lovely way, demonstrating their knowledge of her as an individual. The activities offered are good, but would benefit from additional support staff so more residents can take part and have attention - something that my mother craved and enjoyed as it gave her reassurance and comfort. I would have liked to have had the opportunity to talk on a formal and regular basis with a member of staff to specifically review my mother's care, perhaps every 3 months. On a weekly regular visit, there was far too often no one available to talk to in any depth. Communication is vital and for relatives, it is also empowering."

"My brother has been extremely happy since entering Barchester Hurstwood View Care Home 22 months ago. The care and consideration of the staff are first class, always kind and sympathetic and mindful of his needs. His physical health has deteriorated, no doubt because of his advancing age, but his mental status remains the same as when he entered the home, for which we are thankful. The laundry is a problem, lost items etc. But I understand this is the same problem throughout care homes."

"I believe my father's basic needs are satisfied eg warmth, food, toileting. However, I am not sure that his mental health and the need for companionship is met. There have been several changes in staff and I am not sure that the ratios are good enough for the care of people with dementia who require time with caregivers to talk. He is not taken out or taken into the garden which is what we discussed when we first chose the home. Many of the staff are pleasant and do genuinely seem to care but they are always in a rush and have so little time."

"My 88 year old Mum lives in one of the "assisted living" flats attached to Hurstwood View and, after a few wobbles in 2015 when she moved in, is now "very content." Mum has mild to moderate dementia but the staff do an excellent job of enabling her to keep the right balance of independence. A change of Manager last year has put in place strong leadership and I'm confient in giving Hurstwood View an excellent rating."

"After a very bad year, the new management are getting things under control. Staffing is still a problem with many agency staff still used. The permanent staff often seem overwhelmed. There are more residents who are very sick now and the more able ones appear to be having less time. Food is excellent. Activities need improvement many things don't happen. I would like to see more quizzes, games and important activities involving movement and more outings."

"Hurstwood View is purpose built with excellent facilities but above all, it is a warm, caring and friendly home. There is a bright, comfortable cafe area where people meet and get to know one another over a hot drink and delicious homemade cakes and biscuits. There is always a lovely atmosphere here. The food is excellent with a very good menu choice- something to tempt everyone. The residents are treated with dignity and kindness by the staff who take the trouble to really get to know them. The home provides great entertainment - some of the singers are fabulous - and the people I know there have really enjoyed the animals when they've come to visit. "I had just over two weeks respite care at my own request, on leaving hospital. All went smoothly thanks to the home's team liaising with the hospital staff. Hartswood met my needs admirably, giving me a relaxed background to convalesce and prepare to return to an independent life. Full support was clearly there if I needed it but I appreciated the "hands off" approach and lack of "regime". The staff were outstanding and I admired their commitment especially to the most needy residents. The surroundings are most agreeable and the building well appointed."

"My husband has been in the home since may having initially gone for respite care only. It took a while for him to settle (and for me to adjust) but he is now extremely settled and well cared for, better than I could at home. The staff, both carers, auxiliary, kitchen etc are all very cheerful and helpful. The carers take the time to get to know the residents and their likes/dislikes etc and the residents are never pressured to do anything they do not want to do. Visiting times are not limited and you are always made to feel welcome. The food is good and always varied. Tea and coffee are readily available, and cake/biscuits. My weekday visits are restricted to evenings so I do not see the activities but get reports from the carers when I visit in the evening or phone. I do feel there could be more activities on memory lane rather than downstairs. I think the laundry service could be improved. Sometimes the cleanliness could be improved, empty cups/plates etc removed from the lounge."

"I visited Barchester Hurstwood View last week to see if it was a suitable place for my father who suffers with dementia. Although we have now decided to move my Dad closer to us in Wales, I was very impressed with the ambience and facilities of the home. The Manager was extremely helpful and took time to show us around and explain the day to day care we could expect for Dad. All the staff we met were very pleasant and the few we spoke to seemed very experienced in dementia care, and also very caring and understanding for individual needs. Everywhere in the home looked spotless and the communal lounges looked very welcoming and well thought out. To be honest, I'd put my name down now if I could! I have marked the options as excellent as I was unable to submit my comments without completing each one, but this is purely based on an hour's visit."

"My father has been in Hurstwood View for one month having initially gone for two weeks respite. My sister and I have been looking for a care home for a while and responded to a mail drop by this home. The moment we walked through the door we knew it would be suitable. Even though we hadn't made an appointment the manager took time to give us a comprehensive tour and we were extremely impressed by the standard of the rooms, the communal areas, the outside space and also the friendliness of all the staff. "The first thing that struck me about Hurstwood View is that it has a lovely welcoming and positive atmosphere and is not like other care homes I have looked at. It is purpose built and very well laid out so everything feels visible and open. The position of the home, the decor and and lovely garden and views make it feel like home from home. The staff are very caring and organised, thanks to a compassionate and strong management team. All queries are taken seriously, recorded and dealt with. The food is restaurant quality and no one is ever short of tea and cake! I would very much recommend this care home to others for respite or permanent stays."

"After several months spent in various hospitals, my Dad was so happy to have such a lovely place to call home. He appreciated the beautiful view from his window and established a good rapport with his carers. He told us that he hoped he could stay there until the end of his days. As his family we were made to feel very welcome at whatever time we called to see Dad and encouraged to help ourselves to tea and coffee and homemade biscuits and cake. The rooms are all individually decorated, warm, and well equipped with good quality furniture, and there are several attractive and comfortable lounge areas. Most important of all, the staff are so caring towards the residents and helpful and welcoming to the residents' families. The residents are treated with kindness, patience and dignity. Overall, I would not hesitate in rating the home as excellent."
