Activities at Hunters Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Ben Sandall

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Ben and I am the Activities Coordinator at Hunters.  I started working at Hunters as part of the hospitality team, but when a vacancy came up on the activities team I jumped at the opportunity.  I have seen how important a varied activities programme is and the team ensure we offer something for everyone including regular past times.

Resident Plans

Hunters Care Centre is a community and it is so important that our residents' are part of planning the event's program as well as any plans for the actual home and the grounds.  We hold regular resident meetings, appoint resident ambassadors and we really listen.  Currently we are looking ahead to the summer and the hope is to be outside as much as possible.  We often talk about our wishing tree, this is another way a resident can have their say by expressing a wish.  There are such a variety of requests, one resident really loves the sun and has asked to be outside as much as possible, another really fancied some Bournville chocolate, both wishes were granted.  Barchester are committed to person centred care and we want our homes to be a home from home.

Wishing Tree

The wishing tree in Hunter's reception gives residents the opportunity to write their wishes onto a paper leaf and hang it on the tree for the team to grant those wishes.  One resident wanted to bake a cake and Michelle made that wish happen today.  The cake needed to gluten free, the baking was greatly enjoyed as was the delicious end result.

Exercise and Puzzles

Hunters was a hive of activity today, we ensure we give our residents variety and choice every day.  Barchester's Life Enrichment program supports mind, body and soul.  Today quite a few residents chose to participate in a fun lively exercise class while others focused on puzzles.  It is so important for us all to keep our minds and bodies active, we are so fortunate at Hunters to have spacious lounges along with our extensive grounds.

Hunters at Dusk

We are all enjoying the lighter nights and the clocks change this weekend so we can enjoy British Summer Time! The light was fading on leaving Hunters, which only added to the striking trees with birds nesting up high and the glorious spring flowers in bloom. Hunters' really is in such a beautiful setting.

Woodland Trail

Residents so enjoy strolling around our Woodland Trail, it is flat and accessible to all. The team take every opportunity to take residents outside and with the change in the weather we can take full advantage of our glorious grounds. Hunters are planning to add some further interest to the trail, we will keep you all updated.

Magic Table Benefits Residents

Hunters has a Memory Lane Community for those living with dementia.  The community has a range of resources designed to increase physical and social interactions.  The magic table is always a popular activity, it is fun, but also has been proven to have a very positive effect on those living with dementia.  The interactive light projected games offer sensory stimulation, relaxation and reminiscence.  Barchester's Life Enrichment Program offers all residents a meaningful person centered range of group and individual activities and events.
