Activities at Henford House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.

Debbie Phillips

Activities Coordinator

I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.

Bride at Henford

Bride at Henford

Mr & Mrs Brian Shotter had a celebration afternoon with their family to celebrate their grandson’s wedding. For various reasons, Mr & Mr Shotter couldn't attend the ceremony, but enjoyed the full effect of seeing the beautiful bride in her dress at Henford House.

The family were able to use the upstairs lounge, which can accommodate a number of people, and were able to enjoy the refreshments that Mr & Mrs Shotter’s daughter had arranged.

Remembrance at Henford

Janet Davies conducted a remembrance service for the residents at Henford House on Thursday 16th November. Members of the Royal British Legion attended and Chairman, Bob Wright, did the exhortation at the start of the service and the kohima verse at the end.

All guests then stayed for a 3 course meal along with residents in the dining room, where each table was decorated with a ceramic poppy, which were made by the residents in our pottery classes.

Guy Fawkes Celebrations

Guy Fawkes Celebrations

On Tuesday 7th November, at 5:00 p.m., Simon Chainey came to Henford House to perform a dangerous magical act – dancing with fire. Residents had seen Simon perform at the annual garden party back in July, but to see the performance in the dark was completely different to watching it in the day time.

Residents, relatives, staff and members of the public watched Simon perform his amazing fire dance routine for 30 minutes, followed by some fireworks, then everyone went inside for hot dogs and soup. Any donations received were given to Dorothy House.

Halloween

Residents worked really hard scooping out the pumpkins for Halloween. All afternoon they focused on scooping and creating different designs. Later on, at dusk, we put artificial flickering candles in their creations to give a spooky and effective result. The residents found it quite a mission to do, but lots of fun!

Celebrations at Henford

Staff, residents, families and friends had a surprise party for Barchester’s Apprentice of the Year – Rebecca Marsh. Rebecca was named as a Divisional Winner at the 2017 Barchester Care Awards, and was given an award at a ceremony on 18th October, which was received by colleagues, Amy and Steph, as Rebecca was on holiday in America.

Rebecca’s face was priceless when she entered the lounge at Henford House to see her family, friends and colleagues waiting to surprise her. She had no idea what was happening and was expecting to go for a meal in Trowbridge, so was a little curious as to why she had to come to Henford.

General Manager, Lynne Leather, presented Rebecca with her award and flowers, and Regional Director, Carol Edwards, came to congratulate Rebecca.

We had another celebration for Team Leader, Tracey Donnelly, who recently received her her 30 year Long Service Award. Tracey received flowers and a gift for all her hard work over the last 30 years at Henford House.
