Activities at Henford House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.

Debbie Phillips

Activities Coordinator

I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.

February Celebrations

There was lots to celebrate at Henford in February: Shrove Tuesday, Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year.

On Shrove Tuesday, residents competed to see how many times they could flip a pancake. Staff also wanted to see how far in the air they could get it and then catch it again.

The next day, staff, residents, families and guests from the Royal British Legion had a celebratory lunch on Valentine’s Day and General Manager, Lynne, gave a red rose to the gentlemen and a resident's husband presented a red rose to the ladies. Later on in the day, the residents enjoyed a love song karaoke supper which rounded off the day perfectly.

Then on 16th February, a Chinese lunch was available for residents to celebrate the Chinese New Year. As it was the Year of the Dog, Barney came in for the afternoon to celebrate with the residents in the lounge.

General Manager, Lynne Leather, presented Margaret Welsh with flowers and a Barchester gold leaf pin for 15 years of service, alongside Nicola Robinson, who has completed 10 years. Well done to both!

Burns Night Celebrations

Burns Night Celebrations

Residents and staff sipped their whisky to live entertainment and the dining room came alive as tunes were played on the bagpipes. For the less mobile residents, bagpipe player, Richard Bingham, joined them in their rooms, so everyone at Henford got to experience the musical magic.

Employee of the Month - January

Congratulations to Dorota Roszman, who was named as January's Employee of the Month here at Henford House.

Dorota was voted for by staff because she never complains, is a joy to work with, always has a smile on her face and is very caring towards residents.

A Cracking Christmas

Residents had a fun-filled December at Henford House.

All musical entertainers that had performed throughout the year all came back in the festive period, including Tropical Discovery, who came with their snakes, reptiles and other giant insects.

Residents had a wonderful time when Eva Productions performed their 'Mother Goose' pantomime.

We had a first time visit from the Rock Choir, who joined us on a resident's birthday and helped us to sing a rendition of 'Happy Birthday' on this special occasion.

The best day was when we used the minibus to take a few residents to Whitehall Garden Centre to see the festive scenery, which included reindeers, donkeys, sheep and beautiful Christmas displays. Tea, coffee and cakes were enjoyed in the restaurant before returning to Henford.

The new year was celebrated with live entertainment from Emma on New Year’s Eve and Sophie on New Year's Day. A good old fashioned singalong was enjoyed on both occasions.
