Activities at Henford House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.

Debbie Phillips

Activities Coordinator

I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.

Planting Sunflowers

Henford House residents had a wonderful morning with community champions, Megan and Gina from Morrison’s, in the garden planting sun flower seeds in the sunshine!

They also provided the residents with amazing activity packs and delicious sunflower biscuits. It was a fantastic time spent with members of the community.

Hooray for Hair Salons

As a welcome back to the hair salons, residents thought it would be a lovely idea to take round a few flower arrangements they had created to celebrate their grand opening.

The salons selected were of those and known by our residents; we were welcomed by very happy stylists and smiley customers. The atmosphere was amazing and we all wish them well!

Easter Celebrations

Staff and residents celebrated Easter with a whole host of different activities, including decorating their Easter cake for the Barchester Easter Cake Competition, making Easter bonnets, and decorating the home; making Easter cards for the children at The Avenue, The Minster and St. Georges primary schools, and they received some beautiful cards and Easter colouring pictures back from the children at The Avenue and The Minster which made their day!

Residents also tucked in to a delicious Easter meal of Roast turkey and roast lamb prepared by the home’s Head Chef.

As always, we’ve all been looking forward to Easter. It’s such a nice time of the year – the residents love all the colourful Easter eggs and making their Easter bonnets. It’s really been an eggs-cellent few days!

Spring has sprung

Residents at Henford House love being out in the garden. So this year we are starting early and making sure that our tomato plants are planted and ready to grow. The chef is looking forward to using these and the herbs the residents are also growing in his recipes.

Easter Competition

Henford House understand the importance of keeping our residents part of the wider community. So we are asking our local community to guess the amount of mini eggs in the jar. Head over to our Facebook page to have a go and like our page for lots more great competitions @BarchesterHenfordHouse.

Mary Quant Virtual talk

Staff and residents at Henford House were treated to a virtual talk about Mary Quant’s influence on the world of fashion by V&A Dundee curator, Mhairi Maxwell. The talk forms part of a series of six talks and virtual tours that V&A Dundee is hosting for Barchester Healthcare’s care homes and private hospitals across the UK. Everyone said the talk was fascinating and transported them back to the swinging sixties.
