Activities at Henford House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.

Debbie Phillips

Activities Coordinator

I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.

Residents are getting festive!

We had a wonderful time this week at Whitehall Garden Centre in Lacock, the displays and shopping for Christmas treats made us feel very festive!

Afternoon tea at the Garden Centre

Our residents took a trip to local Lakeside Garden Centre in Crockerton to choose Christmas decorations and plants for the garden club.

After a short walk round outside we relaxed inside with tea and tasty cakes followed by a good look round their Christmas displays - we had a lovely afternoon

Supporting Wiltshire Air Ambulance

We welcomed Wiltshire Air Ambulance volunteer Hugh this week to collect our donation of £304.70 and meet the team including new General Manager Charlie Osgood. BIG thank to all our residents, relatives and staff who supported our events in 2021 and gave so generously.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance Community Engagement and Special Events Coordinator Ellie Owen said: “We need to raise £4 million each year to continue flying and saving lives across Wiltshire, Bath and surrounding areas.”

"We receive no regular direct Government funding or National Lottery grants, so rely on generous donations from the public, local community groups and businesses, such as Henford House Care Home. We can’t thank them enough for their fundraising efforts to date and we look forward to seeing what they have planned for 2022.”

Remembrance service for residents

We commemorated the signing of the Armistice Day agreement on the day that the guns finally fell silent. Residents and staff joined the rest of the United Kingdom in holding a two-minute silence at the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day, of the eleventh month.

As well as marking Armistice Day by wearing poppies and observing the national two minute silence, residents had earlier held a Remembrance Service led by Eva from Christ Church Warminster accompanied by pianist Pam. Residents welcomed two guests, Derek and Bob from Warminster Royal British Legion which has been running since July 1921 without pausing. By joining us it made memories even more poignant for our resident’s as we approach Remembrance Sunday. We appreciate their support in coming to our home.
