Activities at Fountains Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Louise Crooks
Hello I am Louise, my first role with Barchester was caring for our residents. Previously I worked in an early years environment for 17 years where I organised activities and events. I am thrilled to now be Activities Lead and being able to continue enriching the life’s of our lovely residents here at Fountains.

Private dining for Valentines Day
Love was in the air at Fountains today to celebrate Valentine's Day
We wanted to do something special for our residents who have a spouse living at home, so we invited them for a private dining experience.
They enjoyed a 3 course love themed menu and of course, each other.
Thanks to Flowers of Solihull our residents were able to surprise their spouse on arrival with a single red rose, which was a really lovely surprise.
It wasn't just Valentine's Day here at Fountains but Galentine's Day too - "a day for women to celebrate their friendships with their lady friends" and our ladies did just that sharing the same delicious menu.
Happy Valentines Day everyone - hoping your day has been filled with love.
6 Nations Championship
On a rainy Sunday afternoon what better way to spend it than with a beer with friends.
Our men loved getting together for a Gentleman’s Club to watch England vs Italy in the Six Nations Game.
They enjoyed a delicious selection of pub themed snacks prepared by our kitchen team and a nice cold glass of beer.
We cheered on the team and reminisced about playing sports as young men.
Morning "Oomph"
Here at Fountains we like to get our days started in the best way. Our residents have been thoroughly enjoying ‘Oomph’s virtual armchair exercise classes’.
Oomph is a digital platform that provides brilliant activity ideas, exercise inspiration and training tools all in one happy place.
We love singing along to our favourite songs whilst practicing our strength and enjoying the movements. It really is a perfect start to everyday.
An afternoon of entertainment
Fountains residents enjoyed a musical afternoon with the return of David McFegan.
David filled the room with fun. He played and sang classics from the 40s 50s and 60s.
Everyone enjoyed singing along… we even had some dancers take to the floor to share in the fun with one another.
It was such a wonderful afternoon, and took all of our residents back to a time in their lives spent ballroom dancing.
Thank you David for sharing your joy of music with us all at Fountains.
Chinese New Year celebrations
Fountains residents had a wonderful time celebrating Chinese New Year last week.
We started our celebrations with a Thai chi session with our fantastic reiki and relaxation therapist Emma.
Emma guided us through the session, we listened to some beautiful Chinese relaxation music as we practiced the moves.
We then enjoyed a delicious Chinese banquet prepared by our kitchen team, our residents enjoyed: chicken and sweetcorn soup to start, followed by yuk sung, vegetables in a black bean sauce with egg fried rice, sweet and sour chicken balls, chicken chow mein and banana fritters for dessert.
It was a wonderful opportunity to come together and celebrate the Chinese culture.
For the final part of the celebrations our residents had fun writing their own good fortunes and learning about the Chinese symbols.
It was a wonderful day one we look forward to celebrating again next year.
International Chocolate Cake Day
Fountains residents had great fun getting involved in a morning of baking to celebrate International Chocolate Cake Day.
We decided to take a healthier approach to the day and made a ‘vegan beetroot chocolate cake’. Our residents were amazed that you could take a vegetable and turn it into a delicious chocolate cake.
Of course our kitchen team had to get involved too and treated staff and residents to an indulgent chocolate fudge cake.
It was a yummy day to remember for us all! One we will certainly be celebrating next year.
