Activities at Emily Jackson House Care Home

Our activities team continues to offer a wide range of activities to both mentally and physically stimulate our residents. Our activities include one to one shopping, group outings in our minibus, and regularly attending our local church and bowling club. We also enjoy the entertainment from the musicians who come and visit us as well as our PAT dog. We have a range of activities so residents with all abilities and talents can join in activities and social gatherings. We encourage families and volunteers to share the joy with us by taking part in our social events as well.

Music is the Best Therapy

Tracey runs a music therapy session twice a month for our residents; she focuses on the movement to music and how she can draw out emotion through the use of music. Tracey is a good friend to many of the residents and staff, as she has been entertaining our residents with music therapy for many years.

Tracey runs a 1 hour session where she uses props such as, pom-poms, musical instruments, plates and sticks, to encourage the residents to dance and play along to the music. Tracey’s session also focuses on exercise and movement of the body; she encourages the residents to move their legs and arms around with the props to stimulate their muscles.

Music engages residents living with advanced dementia; some of our residents will not interact with any other activity, apart from Tracey’s sessions, because she knows what music they like and how to encourage them to engage. Tracey takes time to learn each resident’s individual personalities and dementia to adapt her session for them.

Cocktails and Mocktails

Residents at Emily Jackson House were treated to an afternoon of cocktails and mocktails by Management and staff at the home. The residents enjoyed it so much the team agreed it must be repeated very soon.

Fury Friends

At Emily Jackson House, we love having animals come to visit our residents; the residents love to look at them, stroke them and feed them. Animals have a lot of patience and can bring so much joy and excitement to the residents. We recently discovered Sharon and her Guinea Pigs. Sharon brought some babies and adult Guinea Pigs to show our residents. She set up in the communal areas and gave out the Guinea Pigs to the residents in there. Our Activities Team then took the adult Guinea Pigs to see all of the residents who were in their rooms. They loved petting them and feeding them celery sticks – probably too many!

The residents enjoyed the company of the Guinea Pigs so much that we have booked them to return on a monthly basis. We are looking forward to seeing Sharon and her fury friends again once lockdown is over!

Visitor's

Visitors

Residents from another care home residents and their Activities Coordinator, came to join us for our coffee morning in March. Our residents and guests enjoyed freshly brewed tea and coffee and some delicious cakes home baked from our Chef! Everyone really enjoyed meeting new people and we have invited them back in the summer for an Afternoon Tea and our summer party! We are all looking forward to it!

Mothering Sunday

The team at Emily Jackson House did not want to our Mothers be alone on Mother’s Day, due to the Corona Virus; the activities team put together a vase of flowers and gave each lady a vase and a cupcake. The ladies were very pleased with their bouquet of flowers, which were displayed for them in their bedrooms. Mothering Sunday is meant to be a time to give all mum’s love and be thankful for how wonderful they are, and sadly this year our residents did not get to do this with their families due to the lockdown, therefore, we got together as a team to make sure the mothers didn’t go without!

Our Chef cooked a delicious Sunday lunch for the residents to enjoy, which went down very well! He also baked plenty of cupcakes which were shared out between the residents. Our Chef made beautiful butterfly cakes, which I am sure Mary Berry herself would’ve been proud of!

I think that when this Is done, all of the photos etc will be up to date, which is really good. I will send over a profile for the front of the activities page and also some more staff photos and profiles probably next week.
