Activities at Emily Jackson House Care Home

Our activities team continues to offer a wide range of activities to both mentally and physically stimulate our residents. Our activities include one to one shopping, group outings in our minibus, and regularly attending our local church and bowling club. We also enjoy the entertainment from the musicians who come and visit us as well as our PAT dog. We have a range of activities so residents with all abilities and talents can join in activities and social gatherings. We encourage families and volunteers to share the joy with us by taking part in our social events as well.

Life at Emily Jackson House Care Home

Birdwatching

Today’s beautiful weather brought many birds into our back garden. Many of our residents love nature and today, they had such a wonderful time outside while enjoying the sunshine and birdwatching. The sound of the birds singing have brought lovely smiles from our residents faces.

The Emily Jackson House Pond

The pond is quite popular with our residents. The sound from the waterfalls is very soothing and therapeutic. The plants are in bloom and they look really beautiful. Today, some of our residents enjoyed the fresh air and the lovely sunshine while watching the fishes in our pond. I

The Corona Virus has isolated everyone from those that they love; children and their friends, parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren. Many elderly people are isolated from their family and friends, without the current pandemic.

At Emily Jackson House care home we are combatting loneliness in the elderly and the general community. We have put together free activity packs which we can post to anywhere in the UK; it is completely free of charge. We have differing levels of difficulty, ranging from easy to hard. We have included a selection of brain teasers, colouring, light exercises, information, quizzes, word searches, cross words and more. *We have also put together a specialist dementia pack for people living with dementia.

We have also put together activity packs for children and families to enjoy. Keep the children occupied with colouring, word searches, spellings, maths, arts & crafts, poetry and more.  The activity packs are completely free of charge and postage too! We just need you to provide us with the age of the child and we can put together a selection of resources for them and you to enjoy!

International Nurses Day 2020!

Happy International Nurses Day to all of the amazing and dedicated nurses working on the frontline of this battle and in the community! Everyone at Emily Jackson House wants to say a huge thank you to all of the nurses, everywhere in the world, for being such great people and for being kind and dedicated in difficult times for others. Nurse’s work and compassion is often under estimated by the population and in times like these, nurses have to put themselves and their families at risk to help and save others; every day should be International Nurses Day!

Amabele Cheng, General Manager, brought all of our staff a selection of chocolate cake and ice-creams to enjoy and to celebrate International Nurses Day 2020! Amabele awarded each of our compassionate and hardworking nurses, with a certificate and a goodie bag full of items hand made from the community, sweet treats and nursing stationery.

Members of the local community have been kindly making face masks and delivering them to us to distribute to our staff, to help keep them safe. The masks have lots of different colours and designs and they look great, thank you!

'What's in the bag?'

The residents love to play the game “what’s in the bag?”  The mystery and surprise is very exciting and makes everyone smile.

We place different objects in bags, for example; a toothbrush, cello tape, knickers, socks, spoons and a rubber duck. The residents have to put their hands into the bag and, without looking, guess what’s in the bag!

This is an excellent exploratory activity for residents living with dementia, as it can be very sensory for them, as they have to use their touch sense to work out what the object is. The residents and staff will often fall around laughing at some of the residents guess’!
