Activities at Emily Jackson House Care Home

Our activities team continues to offer a wide range of activities to both mentally and physically stimulate our residents. Our activities include one to one shopping, group outings in our minibus, and regularly attending our local church and bowling club. We also enjoy the entertainment from the musicians who come and visit us as well as our PAT dog. We have a range of activities so residents with all abilities and talents can join in activities and social gatherings. We encourage families and volunteers to share the joy with us by taking part in our social events as well.

Life at Emily Jackson House Care Home

A Kind Donation

We may not be able to change the whole world but we can change the world for one person; Emily Jackson is doing something special this Christmas by partnering with JAM (Joint Aid Management) UK.

Staff have decided that instead of spending money on Christmas cards or gifts for each other, they will donate this money to JAM instead.

JAM is an African founded and headquartered, Christian international humanitarian relief and development organisation currently operating in Angola, Mozambique, Rwanda, South Africa, South Sudan, Uganda and Sierra Leon.It is helping to develop people through educational and developmental programmes, meeting the nutritional and educational needs of children and providing sustainable water and sanitisation solutions.

Arts & Crafts

At Emily Jackson House, every resident is given the opportunity to participate and engage in arts and crafts activities tailored to their individual abilities. They always enjoy the tactile feel of painting and the repetitive action of colouring that has provided a form of easy relaxation and a sense of accomplishment.

Arts and crafts are always made easy and fun by our activities team by ensuring our residents are guided all throughout and by ensuring the art theme for each session is simple to follow.

The theme was 'butterflies', so residents cut out colourful paper butterflies. Most of the participants combined different colours, which looked really amazing when they were done.

Dance Club

Our residents had a fabulous start to our weekly ‘Dance Club’. Everybody was having a terrific time and you can see on the photo how they immersed themselves to the familiar music of the '60s.

Credit to Vida (Memory Lane Unit Manager) for this wonderful idea and for her time and to all other staff who have participated so that our residents could enjoy and have the fun that they so truly deserve.

Our Dance Club offers our residents physical benefits, which include the improvement of balance, strength and gait that can help to reduce the risk of falls, improving their coordination and support in maintaining their mobility.

Above all, our Dance Club promotes social interaction—it's enjoyable and fun!

Outdoor Dining

The weather has been very kind to us recently, so we have been able to enjoy some outdoor dining. It has been a few weeks since we have been able to do this due to the colder weather.

Residents were really looking forward to our fabulous outdoor dining. It was lovely to see them enjoying some fresh air while having a scrumptious and delectable lunch, complemented with our good-tasting succulent wines.

National Volunteer’s Week

At Emily Jackson House we have so many willing and generous volunteers and students. Chris, pictured, has been volunteering with us for many years and has now become a very good friend to many of our residents and staff. Chris is currently not visiting the home, due to lockdown, which is making her and the residents very sad, as they miss one another. Chris usually visits twice a week, so it is a big impact to the normal routine when she is not coming in as normal.

We wanted to say a huge thank you to Chris for everything she has done for the home and the residents. Chris you are one in a million, we are eternally grateful to your contributions to the residents wellbeing. We delivered Chris a gorgeous potted Lily plant, a box of chocolates and hand-written card to express our thanks. Chris was so pleased to see our activities lead, it was a great short reunion after several months! All of the staff and residents at Emily Jackson House are looking forward to Chris coming back, and all of our other wonderful volunteers and students; thank you to you all.
