Activities at Ashcombe House Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Michelle Martin

Activities Coordinator

I’m a fun, loud and outgoing individual who loves organising fun activities for residents at Ashcombe House (and staff, if possible). I’m very creative and keep the residents very active, both mentally and physically In my spare time, I love doing a lot of fundraising, which usually ends up with me sliding in mud.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Ashcombe House Care Home

Bonfire Night

Usually the home attends a local firework display, but with current covid measures in England all displays were cancelled.

We hosted our first ever firework display in the homes garden. So Instead of residents feeling the cold of the night air they were able to sit in the homes conservatory in the warm with a cup of hot chocolate and watch the display of colourful fireworks from a comfy armchair.

Joan Bull resident at the home said: “It was fantastic to see all the colourful fireworks whilst in the warm, I liked that there was no noise as the loud bangs usually make me jump!” .

Birthday Celebrations

A birthday is always a great excuse for a celebration, our head chef, Vicky, is amazing at creating birthday cakes to suit the resident and really has created some masterpieces. Birthdays are celebrated with decorations, balloons and cake, you can never have too much cake.

Flower Arranging

Flower arranging sessions are always a popular activity and residents enjoy displaying the finished arrangements in their rooms. This activity is enjoyed by all residents and provides a fantastic sensory experience. Flowers really bring a smile to our faces from Identifying the flowers to reminiscing of gardens back home.

Surprise Party

Staff & residents hosted a surprise 40th birthday party for General Manager, Louise lambert. Decorations, party food, fun and a very competitive 'pass the parcel' game was enjoyed by all. Louise had no idea about the party, so it really was a lovely surprise, and residents enjoyed being able to celebrate this with Louise.

Movie Night

Residents enjoyed watching 'Singing in the Rain', swooning at Gene Kelly and singing along to the classic movie. Movie nights have become a firm favourite. All we need to remember is the popcorn!

Harvest Festival

Residents enjoyed a sensory experience making bread for an inter-home harvest festival competition. Making the bread dough brought back lots of fond memories of childhood and how their mothers always baked their own bread. Residents made an amazing display to showcase all their work which has been enjoyed by everyone in the home.
